I know he was promoted within as OC. Is he running the offense or is he OC in name only? How do you guys think he has done and would he be somebody to replace Pinkel one day?

I think he's a very good OC; still learning. Not sure he's HC material at this point and that's not a knock against him. Not every coordinator is HC material.

I've always been a fan of his since his LSU days but didn't know if he was an offensive play calling type of guy. Good to know. I think LSU is going to need a play caller in the near future (2-3 years) and he would be a consideration I think. Knows the area, program, and was well respected when he was here.

He's ours and you can't have him

Good basic football IQ-knowledge,, making him far superior to the tackling dummy he replaced at OC.
Last year(his first year at OC) his tweaks worked rather well for us, wouldn't you say? He's definitely the OC though Pinkel trys to maintain veto control over the play calling, Henson is they guy doing it and is as good as anyone we have, including Pinkel.
This season has been something of a set back for him, he hasn't really innovated much of a change, he's been motioning our TE inside the tackles on obvious running downs that sort of works but is nothing special, other wise he's struggling to figure out how Muaks short passing game is such a big booger.
pretty darn good really, one of Pinkels better promotions.
The only other obviously competent coach we have is the D line coach, Kuligowski, but really what we need to do is bring in a staff that can recruit well, this group has never been better than average in that regard and we all know the importance of recruiting for the SEC.
our coordinators are pretty well paid, Pinkel is a big 'loyality' guy so they get good raises and bonuses. You probably won't get him without making him the HC.

When we moved to the SEC, our first season showed the flaws of a spread offense. DEs are quicker, DBs are tighter. Our offense floundered under OC Yost.
To fix things, the fans screamed to hire Jim Chaney! (How's that working out Arky?).
Instead, Pinkel promoted Henson. Not many of us were happy with that. But with last season, he was exactly what we needed.

He is a hell of a lot more sensible than Dave Yost. That guy sucked.

I would say having your entire starting O-Line injured might have something to do with it.
