The disparity in divisions is an exact mirror of the disparity in conferences. The West is best but the East winner will be in a better position to crash the playoffs due to the extra game and weaker sked.

A four team playoff, SEC style: East and West winners 1 and 2, at large for 3 and 4. Seeding of 1 and 2 and selection of 3 and 4 done by coaches' vote. Biases are included but drowned out.

This also helps eliminate any team that doesn't win their division from jumping into playoff contention without winning something worthwhile. So obviously LSU fans should be on board.

Already have one

Alabama so scared they want to make sure they can have second, third, and fourth options to somehow get in the real playoff

If the NCAA or the P% would allow a conference semifinal, the SEC should add NC State and VaTech and have 4 pods.

West pod:
A&M
LSU
OM
MSU

North pod:
Arky
Mizou
Vandy
UK

Central pod:
Bama
Auburn
UGA
UT

East pod:
VaTech
NC State
USCe
UF

The season is already kind of a playoff. I think what you are really wanting is to do like other conferences and play everyone in the conference.

As many as they physically can.

Division winner with best record seeded directly into CCG. Other division winner plays the top at large team to advance.

no that's not fair. since we are the southEASTern conference, it would give this pod an unfair recruiting advantage ... how do you not see this?

No playoff, you'll be adding too many games and making the conference weaker overall.

What they need to do is this:

Step 1. Get rid of divisions.

Step 2. Give each team their 2 or 3 rival games that get played every year. Alabama vs Tennessee, Alabama vs Auburn, etc.

Step 3. Rotate all the other games like they do now with the cross division.

Step 4. The 2 best teams play in the conference championship game.

Problems solved:

1. Alabama would actually have played LSU in 2011 SECCG.

2. Rotates the teams out faster so you never go more than like 2 years without playing a team.

2B. Accomplishes the goal of Nick Saban for wanting 9 conference games without having to go to 9 conference games(and thus 7 extra losses for the conference).

3. I hate the idea of adding more teams, but if more teams are added it is the best method for allowing them.

Make it happen Slive, it's the best thing that could happen to the conference after the expansion. As the OP correctly points out, the division winner crap is terrible for deciding who plays in the championship, no different than conference champions is horrible for playoff choices.

Yeah no. The central pod is stupidly harder than any other.

Despite who you would put in each Pod that is the perfect thing Imo.

Play 9 conference games. 3 from your pod and 2 from every other. Top team from each pod makes conference playoff. First round played at home team stadium.

That lets every team in the conference play every 1-2 years and to me will one day be the future of conferences.

I agree with the roommate switch method but those pods were stupid.

At 16, pods is perfect but it would need to be more balanced than that.

9 game schedule. Play 3 in your pod, 3 permanent from other pods, 3 rotate other pods. You do a complete rotation home and away within 6 years. Keep the rivalries.

I was trying to maintain the 2 big rivalries so that they could stick to a 8 game SEC schedule and have timely trips to every school.

3 pod games
1 permanent opponent
2 home sec games
2 away sec games

if my math is correct, each team would visit every school in a 6 yr rotation.

Define "weaker schedule"!
