If it's happened, it hasn't been in recent memory, but has the Egg Bowl ever been played between two ranked teams? It always seems like one of us is good and the other sucks arse. I couldn't find an answer anywhere.

1999 was probably the last time.

Pretty sure it happened in 1999

Thanks, you're right. We were 23 and y'all were 18. Hopefully both teams are higher than that this year.

I kind of hope the Egg Bowl decides the west

I do too. It would be good for the state, both schools and the rivalry in general.

I'm not sure what our ranks were at that 1999 game, but the final AP poll was MSU 13 OM 22 LINK

The last time both schools were in the AP top 25? The final poll of the 1999 season, which had Mississippi State No. 13 and Ole Miss No. 22.

Nov. 30, 1953, is the last time Ole Miss and Mississippi State were both ranked inside the top 15 and played a top 15 opponent in Mississippi. They played each other to a 7-7 tie in Oxford.
The Rebels and Bulldogs met on Nov. 23, 1940, while both were ranked in the top 20.

I think I'd rather State hit about an 8 game losing streak

Two undefeated teams would bring so much media and positive PR to both teams. Look at the Iron Bowl, both those teams have reached their maximum peak when the other is succeeding as well. I want both teams to be in the top 5, that being said, I hope we put y'alls asses in the dirt. Now go to hell.

Both teams are 9-2 going into the Egg bowl. Winner goes to the cotton. Loser to the peach. Bookmark it

either one is a pretty damned good season for Landmass schools.

this.
not because of any animosity towards MSU.....I don't really care about that school in regards to itself. But it's much easier to build a winning program in tLandmass for one school when the other resembles a drizzling pile of dogshit.
