Pretty terrible to say the least. The old saying we'll look how bad they were before he got there was worn out 7 years ago.

With South Carolina

1 10 win season from late 1800s-2010. 3 11 win seasons from 2011-2013.

A thread was made about this the other day how badly it does suck that we've had such a lack of hardware even though we have dominated the East for the last 4 years.

Yea, he deserves tons of credit for making USCe consistently competitive.........but people like to talk about him like he came in after Brad Scott. Lou Holtz took a program that was a total disaster and turned it into half decent. Spurrier picked it up from there and turned them into a perennial Top 25 program. However, the East has been ripe for the picking ever since Tebow left and USCe had just dicked around and not taken advantage of it.

I think in a few years when Florida finds the right guy and Tennessee is solid again USCe is really going to look back over this 5 years period and kick themselves.

Because he's the coach at South Carolina. The fact that he has even one East title is pretty impressive given their abysmal history.

That being said, I do think that program has peaked. They've done what they have been able to largely because of the historically bad ruts Florida and Tennessee have been in. Three straight 11 win seasons is about as good as it can ever realistically get there.

We'll see. We've never had the issue of having so many people leave for the NFL and create a complete turn in experience on the field like we had this year, particularly with defense.

Take the rankings for what they're worth but SC I think is currently 3rd or 4th in recruiting rankings according to Rivals. With so much time left I doubt we finish that high, but it's not like SC is no longer of interests to talented players.

eta: Only now, in the last 5 years or so have fans been donating in the amounts necessary to compete, which has led to the facilities needed to compete. Only now has SC put the required resources into winning and it has shown on the field the last few years.

Have people really forgotten just how bad South Carolina was?

I mean it is Carolina but they've beaten UGA both times they went to Atlanta and last year they beat Missouri, they just follow it up with head scratching losses to teams they probably should beat.

So yea, it is Carolina in the overall sense, but in the more specific sense they have beaten the team that won the division and found ways to piss it away.

Because he makes stupid decisions that cost us every year.

2011 - Leaving Garcia in the Auburn game

2012 - Our entire gameplan for Florida.

2013 - Calling two timeouts and then punting against Tennessee on 4th down in 4th quarter.

2014 - Going for 4th and 1 on the first drive from the shotgun formation and not going for two when we went up 19-7.

He's been awesome for us, but he makes mistakes just like everyone else.

Lou Holtz turned them from 0-11 to 8-4, 9-3, 5-7, 5-7, 6-5.

There was a period between OMG TURRIBLE and Spurrier.

Let's put it this way. We are 9-1 in our last 10 vs UGA and Clemson. In the previous 10 we were 2-8. Some of those teams were division champs, conference champs, BCS bowl winners, and highly ranked etc.

And as a UK fan I can say there's a big jump from a 6-7 win season to winning a division. Even in the East.

UK's 6-7 win seasons were during the Urban Meyer domination era of the SEC East, though.

The last 5 years of the SEC East has been ripe for the taking. Florida stinks, Tennessee stinks, UK stinks, Vandy is Vandy regardless of how good they are and Georgia is talented but USCe BEAT THEM most of them time.

What does that have to do with anything since spurrier has been there. He had near enough by time given how bad the east has been

And from 2010-2013 we dominated the East. But a couple of choke jobs cost us Atlanta.
