That last TD scored by our defense on the fumbled exchange in their end-zone was the result of our special teams downing the ball about on their 1 yard line following our punt. My wife and I watched the replay of the punt and it was pretty obvious that one of our players ran into their punt returner interfering with his ability to receive the punt. The officials didn't make the call which was very fortunate for our dawgs.

We often seem to have penalties or no calls go against us but in this case we benefited mightily since it might well have been the difference in the game.

Is it still a penalty when he's not trying to field the ball? He was 7-10 yards away from it.

Nope. The punt returner on that play wasn't trying to catch the ball at all. He was trying to fool our punt team into thinking he was. But he was nowhere near the ball when we bumped him, thus he couldn't have been interfered with.

Just my .02, but I thought it was a very appropriate no call.

We also were at the bad end of some shite calls. The fumble in the first half that was picked up and nearly returned for a TD that was called down on forward progress was horse shite. They had 13 men on the field when we snapped the ball 2 different times (2 guys were running off) and neither time was a flag thrown. Missed blatant offensive PI in the first half. Some missed holding calls.

Reffing was shite all around yesterday.

i agree the refs were no good. odd shite happening all over. iMac should have definitely been flagged when he called the fair catch and then ran, for instance.

offensive PI is absurd, though. is there any way to get this called? there was one play and i dont remember who was involved so bear with me. they throw a deep ball and our guy is in great position. he basically looks like the receiver. well tennessee's receiver trails him and pushes him down making it impossible to make the interception. if a DB does that to a receiver, it's an easy call. why not the other way around?

something else that bothers me but is never gonna get called and every player does it. on marquez north's touchdown he used his left arm and gave swann a subtle push which makes sure that he cant time a jump and has no chance at making a play. i dont have a problem with the refs on this play, but that is still fricking annoying.

The reason they didn't flag hims is because the ref never blew the play dead when iMac caught it after he waived it off so, according to McKenzie postgame, he was going to run just in case.

That whole play was the officials fault. That whole game was poorly officiated (which isn't surprising cause, you know, SEC refs).

If the whistle was blown before the fumble, then I don't have a problem with that call. If the whistle was blown after the fumble, then it's bad, or even corrupt, officiating.

They need some kind of electronic whistle that can be synchronized with the replay. As it is, there's no way to review something if the field official says I blew it dead due to forward progress.

Valid. I'll take it. Your perspective does raise an interesting question though. If a punter returner waves his arm indicating a fair catch, how close does he have to be to the trajectory of the ball for him to have a fair chance to field the punt?

Considering at the point the return man was in fact attempting to block the UGA guys from getting to the ball, I think he pretty much completely changes his role on the field. Sort of like a punter that does the rugby style thing. Technically, as zoo as they are out of the tackle box, any defense guy can totally go off on them whether they touch the ball or not. This is why every time I see the rugby kick, I wish the defenders would just demolish the punter out of principle.

When you replay the game, pay attention to how much their O-line was holding.

After watching the replay several times, I agree with this view. Their punt returner made a decision to let the ball go over his head and was trying to decoy our players away from the ball.

That was not a penalty and they got away with a ton of holding as it seems everyone we play does...

I'm glad it wasn't just me yesterday. I sit in 316, and there were two blatant offensive pass interference that were not called. There seemed to be several holding calls not called. In the end the refs evened it up at 7 penalties apiece.

1/10 on third downs is atrocious, and the 12 men on the field was absolutely embarrassing. The two picks that Mason threw looked like terrible passes to me. Was the second pick supposed to be a back shoulder throw? Please tell me it was, because I have never seen a more poorly thrown ball if it wasn't.

Refs saw it and rightfully didn't call it.

On the other hand, the whistle on forward progress and the non fumble was a bad call and would have been a td for us.
