Did the West make any strides towards becoming more clear?

Or were things muddied even further...?

As an Alabama fan I feel a bit better about their chances of making the SECCG. Full disclosure, this means I'm SLIGHTLY more confident, and that's added to a pretty dim outlook to begin with.

Ole Miss: Feel like they are close, but simply not ready to take the West.

Legit contender: No

Arkansas: Feel bad for em. This season(for them) reminds me a bit of Auburn's 2010 season - Cam. In both cases, the teams could have improved greatly, translating to previous losses becoming huge wins. Or they could be much improved but come up short after battling the shite out of their schedule. Looks like the latter for this Arkansas team, but they will probably get a big win or two against some SEC team/teams.

Legit contender: No

aTm: Still explosive AND scrappy as shite, which is dangerous. But I have to believe their defense will keep them out of the SECCG.

Legit contender: Yes

Miss State: At this point, have to see them as a legit threat to at least ruin some SEC fans' hopes this year. They're a nice mixture of physicality on offense and defense. Could be a nightmare matchup for a few teams and are stout enough to have a chance in big time games where they're usually an afterthought. As of right now, they're kinda scary.

Legit contender: Yes

LSU: Not our normal LSU team, but I'm a way, they are. Instead of looking like a sure fire West contender, they seem more like a really solid Ole Miss team...waiting around to frick up someone's shot at the championship. Only thing is, more often than not, that makes for a very dangerous, and infuriating, LSU team. Still think they'll fall short, but not before putting their stamp on the race.

Legit contender: No

Auburn: Enough playmakers at each position to have a shot. They'll be a REALLY tough out when they play like they should, but haven't shown a whole a ton of consistency. That, mixed with a defense that looks average or below average at times, tells me they don't have a great shot at being unbeaten at seasons end.

Legit contender: Yes

Alabama: The potential to win the West is definitely there, but they still have a ton of question marks. There isn't one part of their game that leads me to believe they can take over a contest and carry the team to the SECCG. Better than some(including Alabama fans) expected so far, but not dominant enough to seriously put ahead of some of the other West teams right now.

Legit contender: Yes

I really don't think the West will be undefeated heading into the SECCG.

Whatcha say...?

if it keeps playing like it did today, well be ok. we don't need a top 20 defense to win, we just need one that will make enough stops like today

Auburn's D allows just 2.25 more points than Bama does per game.

Other than that I could agree with most of what you posted. No one team stands out as dominant and each team has shown their weaknesses.

Everybody is good but everybody is flawed. Ole Miss, for example, has a fricking awesome defense but has a schizophrenic quarterback.

Yeah y'alls offense seems to be the side that has struggled to get out of the gates so far this year (which I have no doubt will get better as the season goes along).

Meh, feel like it's a sliding scale with Auburn...one that I couldn't quite express.

First, I know the stats, but until Auburn shows a defense capable of dominating a big SEC game on any given night, I have to think Alabama's defense will be a much more coveted asset. This line of thinking will surely make me look and feel like an idiot one day, but looking at the last 6 or so years, I gotta stick to this opinion.

As for my first comment..there seems to be something amiss with this Auburn team. I can easily pull up posts of mine expressing my bewilderment of Auburn not being ranked #2 and all around not receiving enough love. The defensive numbers will assuredly slip a bit, which is fine, but as of right now it doesn't look like the offense is a lock to consistently do what's needed to take pressure off the team in big games.

This might be a product of me thinking Auburn would be damn near unstoppable on offense, or I might just be wrong about my "hunch." Either way, that's my opinion of them right now.

They're just as dangerous as last year except they have two good receivers(hey Bray finally showed out so 2.5) to go along with their running game. Their defensive line is as good as anyone's in the west.

This was a truly frightening thought a couple months ago. And both guys have impressed. But the offense as a whole doesn't seem to be where it was last year, yet.

I really not trying to pick apart this good Auburn team, but idk if I see this. Or maybe I do but the West isn't littered with dominant defensive lines this year, like it has been in the past. Don't think their line is a game changer.

State, Bama, AU and OM have been pretty dominant. The other three in the west are pretty good too.

LSU usually has a dominant line.
Auburn too, pretty regularly.
Alabama's looks better than normal but is always very good for what they intend to do.
Ole Miss, Miss St, and Arkansas are good for stout lines pretty regularly too. And have big playmakers there all the time.

Not sure this is worth arguing though, I'll concede
