Watching him on Finebaum right now and saw where his record was 40-19 over 5 seasons. That's a pretty good record and yet they got rid of him after the 2000 season. While Georgia ended up doing all right without him over the next several years, there was no guarantee Richt would be able to win as much as he did.

So, hindsight thrown out the window, what was it about Jim Donnan that got him fired?

They were 8-4. But I believe the answer might have been the 3 straight losses to Georgia Tech.

Lost to GT 3 IAR '98-00, didn't get along well with big money boosters among several other reasons...

1-4 against UT
1-4 against UF
2-3 against AU
2-3 against GT

No SEC East titles.

UGA fans tired of seeing UF and UT dominate the East while UGA wasn't a factor.

He allowed George Godsey to have a rushing TD of over 8 yards...and it was about 48 yards.

And it took ole George about 20 seconds to cover that distance untouched...

They had higher expectations from their coach back then.

The most underachieving coach I can think of. You should research how man NFL draft picks UGA had under him and the first 2 years under Richt. Great great recruiter. Terrible Xs & Os coach.

2 coaches, similar results overall....
1 goes 1-3 against Tech, 1 goes 11-1.

You do the math. UGA shouldn't lose to Tech. Period.

Couldn't beat Tech, Florida, or UT. I'm sorry but I don't care how good your overall record is, if you're losing consistently to any combination of those three, you gotta go.
