The plight of LSU fans

As far as this website goes, there seem to be a 50/50 split between fans that are positive about the current stand of their program and those that are negative. The 50% that are positive seem to have a minority of realistic fans. The 50% that are negative seem to have a minority of unrealistic fans. Granted, this is an online demographic, and you're bound to run into a more youthful cross section.
That said, here's my question to y'all:
In general, do you think it's better for a program to have positive/unrealistic fans, or negative/realistic fans?
TO LSU FANS: I don't believe in tDecline bs... it's a silly but easy narrative for trolls. I have nothing but respect for your program, and that is well documented in my post history. The numbers speak for themselves, in spite of the people that are frustrated at the program. The point of this post is an exercise in what fans believe is in the best interest of "championship" expectations.
I, for one, think it's a working formula for fans to be able to call a spade a spade, and know when it's time to be negative. I think it's best to know what product you're seeing on the field in terms of an overall product and down to specific units like DB's or O/D-line or w/e... sort of a macro and micro view. Not to under-estimate the power of optimism.
I also think Bama fans would be largely what people are called on this site as "nega-tigers." I think it produces results!

LSU fans as a whole wouldn't have the expectations they do if not for what they see week end and week out in the SEC West and Florida (pre-Muschamp)
- Multiple Heisman Winners/Nominees
- Multiple National Championships
- Multiple BCS Bowl Wins
- Former Coach having success in the Division
It all culminates into a desire for more because LSU has achieved success at least once in each of the things listed above, which is fine...but reality is thrown out the window.

I'm often labeled a negatiger. I would definitely consider myself more realistic than 99% of the tiger rant. I was really less than optimistic about our QB situation this year and was occasionally laughed at and assured time and time again on the tiger rant that Cam Cameron would have one of the QB's performing at a high level. LSU sunshine pumpers are my least favorite fans in all of sports.

I follow college football for entertainment purposes. I generally don't find misery to be entertaining.
As long as I continue to be entertained, I am positive. As soon as I become miserable, I stop watching and discuss changes.
Case in point: 1994 LSU vs USCe. This was the game after the interception game at Auburn at in the stadium, in the pouring dew, I became miserable watching Curley's shite show. I stopped going to games for the remainder of his tenure. Thankfully it ended at the end of that season.
But, in short, winning = entertaining. Losing multiple games in a row = misery.
Considering LSU is still 3-1, I am entertained and not miserable. Therefore you can count me as one of the unrealistic Positigers.

I want to briefly address my thoughts on that... again, I kinda touched on it when I said I don't underestimate optimism. It's a fan's JOB to have "faith." I just like to take the faithful but honest approach.

Not at all, man. The worst kind are the kind that leave games early... which we have as well. Negative or sunshine pumpers, at least both give a major shite.

If following the Tigers is such a miserable experience, why continue to watch?
That is, why engage in a voluntary activity that makes you miserable?
That's what I don't get. They simply grumble and grumble and call people stupid for being entertained by LSU football, they NEVER get the coach they want so they constantly complain about the coaching, how bad it is, and how great it would be if they had gotten his choice, and just generally seem to be miserable human beings. Why choose to be miserable?.

They wouldn't be so miserable if what I posted earlier was like any other "normal" division in CFB...
Under Miles LSU has played against 5 of the 9 Heisman Trophy winners and all but one season (his first) has LSU not played in or played against a team competing for the National Championship.

jk OP - We've taken a step back this season, but one year we don't look like a contender, then you have the asshats coming out of the woodwork boasting about it. MSU fans on here could certainly use a dose of humility b/c true college football fans look past the childish insults and can actually discuss the game.

If I can answer this... Bama sucked something HORRIBLE post Stallings. I enjoy Bama football because I enjoy Bama football. I love waking up on Saturday or getting off of work and breathing the fall air and watching the best sport of all time.

The whole premise for your assumption that fans count in college football is false there for your question is moot.
If fans actually counted at all do you think there would be a committee to decide what teams play in a playoff. The fans are merely a means to get money, they actually don't count for shite anywhere in CFB. And that a real a shame but as long as we all keep eating the shite they are shoveling they will keep shoveling it.

Interesting premise m2pro.
You might be on to something here. I remember when Saban was criticized for losing to Ole Miss in '01.
Apparently,by his reactions in the days afterward, he had not been used to such scrutiny in Lansing.
LSU went on to win 7 straight games, the SEC championship and a Sugar Bowl win.

The most realistic fans know this is a young team at key positions. Some of the early departures the past 2 years were RS Sophomores. The talent is there, but the experience is severely lacking at key positions like QB and DT. The unrealistic fans blame everything on Coach Miles and his run-heavy formations, and QB selections.

I will never understand these types of people. It's like they would rather be right than happy. Les Miles deserves some heat for the playcalling last week, but I know there is a brigade of "fans" who never give any credit to Les and just unleash their fury at any loss or less than comfortable win.

Yeah, I enjoy watching the Tigers on Saturday, I don't even mind losing once in a while. But I'm not going to sit there and get angry week after week watching what's supposed to be the "best sport of all time". I've got too much better shite to do than be miserable.
I'm going to go ahead and guess that you didn't really enjoy watching Bama football in 2000. Likewise, I'm not thinking you were enjoying watching the Tide get beat by N. Illinois, Mississippi, Tennessee, Auburn and Hawaii in 2003. ...Or Arky, State, UT and Auburn in 2006.
