Good read analyzing UT's offensive concepts

One has to wonder how much they will stick to their favorites or if they will come out with totally new stuff. What say the GSB? Either way, it is an informative read.

They will stick to it, just like they did last year. We might see a few deep balls, but that will be off the play action.

Why do they call an end around a "jet sweep?"
It's not really a sweep at all. There are no pulling blockers.
Anyway, the key to stopping this offense is linebacker play.

The biggest thing holding them back as a team is that their OL is awful. Probably the worst in the league

UT O-line is bad, especially in run blocking...
#19 for OU was causing havoc in UT's backfield blitzing off the edge all night...
Except for 2 runs Hurd looks pedestrian at best, prolly due to O-line...
Worley missed a lotta open receievers when he had time to throw...
UT runs plays east-west too much, didn't try to stretch the field too much...
Just my casual observations...

A sweep doesn't have to include a pulling guard or FB.
While a lot of sweeps do, the toss sweep and flanker (jet) sweep can utilize straight zone blocking.
Sweep is the act of a slight arch running to the outside parallel to the line of scrimmage.

Eric Striker is a monster. He lived in Alabama's backfield during the Sugar Bowl.
The key to this game is our pass rush. If Floyd, Jenkins and co. can hang out in the backfield, it'll be a good day for the defense. If not, the offense better be ready for a shootout.

I worry about, as the author suggested, Georgia's front being too aggressive and letting some screens/draws get through.
I'm still convinced that UT's offense victimizes the Georgia defense. Kinda looked like they moved decently vs OU. They just gave up some inopportune sacks and OU got some nice turnovers. They had 3 turnovers forced when UT as on their side of the 50 alone.

While this is all true, it's pretty characteristic of young teams that are replacing their entire OL playing on the road.

The first fumble, which I think set the tone, can absolutely be attributed to that. The 2nd INT, the one in the corner of the end zone, I think was pretty much just excellent ball skills by the DB. The 3rd was a combination of bad decision making by Worley and the secondary taking advantage.
It goes without saying but the OU DBs are flat out better than Georgia's and their pass rush is as lethal if not more. Even then UT had at least some success. I'm focusing too much on the negative, and OU got the job done, but I think that game could have been closer. I just think UT is more dangerous than in the past.

How many times have you watched him, though? Twice? Bama and UT? Have you watched a bunch of their other games?
I feel like because we watch Floyd all the time we see him at his best and worst but with Striker we see him because he's definitely a gamer. I don't watch enough OU to know if he is always on fire but I have heard from some he is undersized and sometimes struggles with the run. That's nit picky but that's like complaining about Floyd (not saying you are). I am sure there are some who have only watched UGA in big games like LSU last year or Clemson this year and thought Floyd was an animal.
Personally, I think Floyd is way better athletically but probably a good bit more raw. Right now though I am just shootin' the shite, who knows.

I don't think UGA D will do as well as OU, but there's a lot of possibilities between that and getting abused.

Sure. I just lean toward abuse. Between having a bye, the talent gap between the OU and Georgia defense, and OU having a more balanced offense that, despite missing a Gurley, is IMO more potent I think we shouldn't expect doing as well as them. The secondary, it just scares me.
Guess that also means I think OU is better than Georgia, which annoys me, but oh well.
