(Question not for State or Ole Miss fans) They are both pretty good coaches but I was just wondering who fans of other SEC schools thought was the better coach? You probably already know but yes freeze has a better overall record but you have to keep in mind 10 of those wins were from Arkansas State & that division.

Hugh Freeze
Age:
44
Head Coaching Record:
48-18
Bowls:
2013 Music City Bowl - W
2013 BBVA Compass - W
2012 GoDaddy.com - DNC

Dan Mullen
Age:
42
Head Coaching Record:
40-28
Bowls:
2013 Liberty Bowl - W
2013 Gator Bowl - L
2011 Music City Bowl - W
2011 Gator Bowl - W

I mean, if we're just going by record, Hugh Freeze's is better.

By your post, both must be fabulous HCs, they both racked up multiple bowl Ws in the same calendar year..deep into contract bonuses.

It's hard to say which is "better" because they have such significant stylistic differences. But Freeze has a higher ceiling, imho. Mullen has done more with less than Freeze, but I think Freeze would perform better at the highest echelons than Mullen would.

(I don't consider the fact that part of his tenure was at Arkansas State to be a meaningful clarification because his available talent matched that of his competition. It's not like he was bringing a roster of SEC players to bear against the rest of the conference.)

This is tough, but I'd go with Mullen because of his past with UF.

That's a tough call. I'd give a slight edge to Mullen, but if they were the choices for my team, I'd demand a 3rd alternative.

While Ole Miss is a much better job than State the fact that freeze has turned the program around this fast especially after 2011 is nothing short of remarkable. Not to mention the resurrection of Auburn and A&M. I would take Freeze in a heartbeat.

Mullen doesn't have the killer instinct. I'd rather have someone that doesn't blow leads.

No problem with that. Bowl season spans the changing of the year. So you can win bowls on January 1st and December 29th of the same year.

Freeze, he took one of the worst major conference programs in America and made them a top-10 team in three years.

Why do you think that Ole Miss is such a "better Job" than State? I don't see that being true except for Oxford being a neater town than Starkville. We actually have better stuff than them even though they are known for being all rich. Our stadium is a lot better than theirs since we expanded it.

Mullen saying with a straight face what he said in defending Dillon Day yesterday, took a huge character hit imho.

The gap between Freeze and he further widened..imho.

I'd still rather if possible, MSU to win the West in 2014, if LSU can't..and they can't.

I'd take Freeze. His coaching philosophy, organizational structure, and resurrection job has been more impressive thus far.

Dan Mullen til last Saturday was virtually incompetent at beating a team of any value. I literally don't think they've beaten a team I thought was worth a damn under him, sans perhaps the 2010 Gator Bowl versus Michigan. The LSU game could prove to be hollow should the Tigers limp to an 8-4 finish.

Hugh Freeze took over a team that was virtually talentless, and downtrodden. The recruits Croom gave Mullen ended up being the blocks in which Mullen put together a program.

Freeze takes the Saban "process" approach with his organization. No game is too big or too small, and no practice or day should be discounted. The goal is to get better everyday, and with continuous execution, will find themselves in the position they want to be in.

Dan Mullen has come out and said that beating Ole Miss is priority #1. He also has acknowledged that they must continue to schedule cupcakes to ensure bowl eligibility. What kind of attitude is that? Is the Liberty Bowl against Rice in that dumpster stadium really that fun?

No doubt, Mullen has put together a formidable team this year. I actually think he is capable of perhaps a 10 win season. However, his philosophy just doesn't "jive" with what I look for in a coach.

I personally think that Hugh Freeze is building a program that will have more sustained success (in moderation) than Dan Mullen. If Dak Prescott went down today, State might not win another SEC game. However, if Wallace went down, the way Ole Miss is put together, I think Buchanon or Kincaide would be formidable enough to help them compete as a team.

I really hate people are looking down on Mullen for taking up for Dillon. That's y'all's decision to think that & that's fine & all but I can guarantee you Mullen is not like some crooked coach. He took up for Dillon because Dillon went to him & told him it was not intentional & Mullen believes Dillon is innocent in his heart. That's just how it is.. but I can understand other teams not seeing it that way so, whatever. Just hate it affecting Mullen's reputation in a bad way around the league for people who don't really understand.
