True story: He was the frontrunner to succeed Dennis Franchione at TCU until the players were able to drum up enough support to get the ADs/admin to pick Patterson.

October 11, 1969...two different participants in the game...each of which would go on to break a career record held by Amos Alonzo Stagg.

Ole Watson wrecked shite in the SEC as Sherrill's first OC. He did such a good job that NC State offered him his first HC job to get him to leave Starkville nthen the wheels came off his coaching career.

ETA: strike the NC State comment. Thought he went there.

That fricker has had a losing record every where he's been. I can't believe some people think he's a good coach.

He was a very good OC for State. I guess the same way some people think Chizik was a good coach.

He is bad and should feel bad.

Sounds like the perfect Big 12 coach.

He did a pretty crappy job at Vandy but he had a winning record at Austin Peay and was just under .500 overall and had a winning conference record at UAB (as their first FBS coach).

I don't for one second say he's a really good coach, but for a long time he was a long way from being a bad one.

Vandy 14, Alabama 10.I was there.

As for Watson's record, its not very good. But look where he's coached: Cincinnati, Rice, Vanderbilt and UAB. Saban,Spurrier,Miles,Richt would have a bunch of "L's" at those places. Still, he did do a horrible job at Vanderbilt.

But glad for him he's back home in Cookeville at TTU.

His episode likely saved Mal Moore's job. He would not have been around long enough to hire Saban had Mike brought his losing ways to Tuscaloosa. Dodged a bullet.

And Joe Paterno. And of course beat Bryant as a QB.

While at Vandy, he also lost two games to Spurrier's Duke teams by a combined 7 points.

Coach Quixote is a pretty fair nickname given his history.

When he was at UAB I was stopped at a traffic light near Teds restaurant and I swear on everything that I saw him pick and eat a booger.

He wasn't stealthy about it either, he looked at for a solid 2 seconds
