Saturday October 14, 2006 seemed like a normal SEC Saturday. Two mediocre teams in Ole Miss and Alabama would take the field for a cripple fight that would end with an overtime victory for Alabama.

However, along the way, the spawn of Satan was released. That day Alabama wore houndstooth collared jerseys and handed out houndstooth Nike hats to celebrate Coach Bryant's 315th win.

Commemorative Jerseys

From this day forward every Gumpity Gump from Robertsdale to Muscle Shoals, Roanoke to Florence and everywhere in between decided that it would be classy to wear Houndstooth to games, shake houndstooth shakers and even paint things houndstooth.

It was a turrible, turrible day.

F you Ole Miss.

Nothing says sidewalker like a houndstooth baseball hat.

So we made it easier to spot your trashy fans, shouldn't you be thanking us?

Oh, it also made you realize 85% of your fanbase is trash? Ah, I see now. Sorry.

I think the houndstooth thing is kind of unique and cool.

For a girl wearing a sundress with a touch of it? Sure.

A 275 guy with a mullet wearing a Houndstooth hat and shaking a grey and black shaker? No.

He did, just not all the time. He was a fashion bro, gotta mix it up.

Those hats are the ugliest things I've ever seen.

Also, Shug Jordan wore a houndstooth hat first. And he bought his from Brooks Brothers in NYC because he was FAF. Bear got his from some janky tailor in Birmingham.

Shug himself, who according to his daughter regularly hit up Brooks Brothers in New York City for all manner of houndstooth apparel.

Shug wore houndstooth long before Bear. Stupid tradition is stupid.

If ours is 85% trash, where does that put Ole Miss? 90? 95%?

Thank God for Mississippi...

Houndstooth isn't all that bad in general I guess but anyone who wore those houndstooth baseball hats should be dragged around by their nuts.

The real phenomenon to me was how women started wearing it. Way back in the day, you'd see a guy wearing just the hat. Now, women wear just about anything with it, and all kinds of accessories. When did it explode among women?
