Stat correction gives Sims the single game yardage record at 484.

quote:

In the original summary Sims was listed as having eight carries, gaining 53 yards, but with 41 yards for a loss, for a total of 12. He’s still being credited with eight carries for 53 yards, but only 14 for a loss, for a total of 39.

The correction gives Alabama 223 rushing yards on 52 carries for an average of 4.3 per carry (up from 52-196, 3.8), and 672 total yards for the game.

That article's biggest surprise: Jay Barker passed for 391 yards in a single game.

Damn, I don't remember him passing for 400 yards in a whole season

Jay had a pretty good senior season. Didn't he finish 5th in the Heisman voting that year?

Will this be corrected on places like ESPN and cfbstats? I know cfbstats rolled with crediting Sims for a HaHa INT in 2012, though I'm not sure if that was ever even corrected.

Barker had more yards than most remember in several games. We just didn't pass as much during those seasons.

If I recall correctly, Barker had over 300 yards passing in every game during his career where he was given 30 attempts.

I feel vindicated. I thought he would be close to having that record. I said so as we left the stadium. But they counted the yards against him when he fumbled initially. Sounds like they fixed it. Congrats to Blake.

I was at that Georgia game. By far the best game I have ever seen in person.

I was finishing my days as a student at Bama that fall and that was one of the best games I ever attended as well. 2nd to the Sugar Bowl win vs Miami for the NC.

I had 50yardline seats and remember looking at the student section going absolutely nuts and thinking, wow, wish I was sitting in the SS, and then thinking damn I'm glad I'm not in the student section. LOL
