How glad are you that Gundy turned us down?

I for one thought it was a terrible idea to start with and I know the jury is still out on butch but I just know Gundy would've been a disaster

One we absolutely couldn't afford at the time and would've set the program back a long, long time

Dude freaks me out when he absolutely ignores the field when the defense is out there.

Very glad. I was thoroughly pissed when his name started popping up.

But I was already redneck angry atp because of Gruden turning us down.

I never have been sure about how serious we were, anyone know if we were to the point of offering the job?

Surely Hart is smart enough to know what a disaster it would've been

I was an emotional roller coaster during the last coaching search. Every time the Gruden thing looked to be dead, some other rumor that sounded real would surface. I listed to Journey's Don't Stop Believing any time hope for Gruden seemed lost. I had no idea what to do when Jones was hired. I even remembered when Duke;s coaching staff info had been removed from their website when it looked like we were hiring Cutcliffe.

I'm not really sure either.

I remember it seemed like all hell started breaking loose the day after Gruden publicly turned us down. Back and forth between Strong and Gundy. Then Fedora and Cutcliffe also started getting some steam. Then suddenly Butch pulls his name out of consideration for the Colorado job.

That was a wild search, no doubt. I'm man enough to admit that I was pissed when Butch was the guy. I didn't know much about him but my initial reaction was "there's no way this Northern, flat topped cheeseball will ever be able to recruit with the big boys in the South".

I like my crow fried fwiw

I remember I didn't really have an opinion on butch, I looked into his past and thought his constant following of Kellys was a little sketchy but at that point we had nothing to lose, he couldn'tve possibly been as bad as Doolander and after being turned down by strong/gruden was just happy to get someone I had heard of

Took a wait and see approach, and I am still taking that approach but have to admit is looking good

TBH, I never liked Gundy and so am super glad he didn't get hired. I also think Hart was simply there to do his due diligence because he'd expressed interest. I don't think Hart had him on our real list but he knew he'd get roasted if he didn't interview him/give him a chance. It was obvious from the start Gundy wanted a raise and I think Hart knew that all along. JMO.

Butch has been doing a fantastic job recruiting for yall. Only time will tell if he can make something out if it.

If he can then I'm going hate playing in Knoxville again

I figured that was the case

But yeah, to your original point, the recruiting is what has me optimistic about next year and beyond. A trip to Neyland Stadium won't be nearly as fun for opposing teams when we are actually good and the crowd is in it like they were for the UGA game last year.
