It finally dawned on me as I sat there and watched Saturday that Vogler gets a helluva lot more snaps than Howard, or at least it seemed that way. Is Vogler that much better of a blocker? How often can Kiffin target Howard if Howard isn't on the field? Seems like lots of times we either had one TE or a TE and a HB, and it was Vogler and not Howard.

Is a big part of the reason Howard isn't targeted more is because he isn't doing other things well enough to get on the field more? Or is Vogler that good? I'm asking honestly...I really don't know.

according to this vogler took 60 snaps and howard took 35. vogler graded out with a -2.3, howard with a -.1

Thanks for the link...never saw that site before. Is that the grading system that the Bama coaches use? 60 snaps to 35 is a big disparity. Those numbers you gave actually were only for run blocking...the overall was -3.0 for Vogler and +.08 for Howard. But yeah, Vogler's run blocking grade wasn't nearly as good.

So why do you think he gets almost twice as many snaps?

They rotate a lot. I think it's to keep a fresh guy in. Eventually OJ will be getting the most snaps. I actually think his route running might be more of a problem than his blocking. not too sure though

we are going with 3 WR and 1 TE set many times.

And more often than not, it's Vogler.

Seems like OJ was in the game a lot on running plays against FAU and USM. Didn't notice him as much against UF

One of my favorite plays against UF was the quick throw to OJ. Pretty sure it was just a hot read but I don't remember seeing OJ lined up wide very often. He looked almost as dangerous as coop with the ball in his hands. I'm not totally convinced that we shouldn't just make him into the next Megatron. Our WR development has been top notch.

Still waiting on the PA TE screen to OJ. patience is a virtue

I've had similar thoughts. That's what Michigan did with Devin Funchess this year who is a similar player. DGB and De'Runnya Wilson are jumbo sized WRs too. The problem is we're a lot thinner at TE than WR

Someone needs to get Lane to watch Denver's Monday night game, manning's first td was an underneath screen to the the TE out of an empty set with a pulling guard and the line blocking down. It's amazing because the middle is so open in short yardage (they were on the 3) when you're in empty

manning 3 yrd td
