They may have better players in the secondary but we all know how bad their coach is.

He could have 4 Richard Sherman's back there and he'd still find a way to make them look bad.

Willie gets a bad rap, unfairly IMO. People seem to forget how tremendous our secondaries were from 01-04 when that was his only responsibility. He was a very, very good DB coach for us. Now, from 05-09 when he had to do that AND be our DC, he stunk. No doubt about it. But when focusing solely on DBs, the dude's not bad.

I'm still confused how Jancek landed a DC gig. He was the worst position coach we've had under Richt IMO.

Martinez worked with Richt and Bobo for 9 years so I'm sure he'll have a grasp on what we want to do Saturday. With that said, we still have Gurley. It's gonna take UT putting 8 in the box to try to stop him, so hopefully Mason will get some solid 1 on 1 situations to exploit.

If we learned anything from willie it's that we need to practice running the bootleg this week in practice. Watching us get Crompton'd with that under him was nauseating.

We had a consistently solid pass rush back then which made our good secondary look great.

Tim wansley, kentrell curry, Demario minter, Paul Oliver, Thomas Davis, Sean jones, Greg blue, tra battle, jermaine phillips, bruce Thornton, Tim Jennings, etc all did pretty well in their own right too..

Jesus, I'll never forget that Tennessee game. We had a shitload of talent on that defense too. On the flipside, we severely lacked offensive talent.

How much coaching did those guys require?

A lot? We've had plenty of 4 and 5 stars not do shite, so obviously coaching is necessary. Davis was a 2 star. Tim Jennings only had one other offer. Battle was a walkon. Thornton converted from rb.

Some of y'all will find anything to complain about. When we have good players, it's bc they were naturals who didnt need any coaching. When our players are bad, it's because the coaching sucks.

This might well be. We know we have a relatively young Secondary and it has been the main weakness of our defense so far. As others have said, while our defenses at Georgia were not good with Coach Martinez as our DC, he is known to be a solid DB coach. And this game is likely to be much closer than the current point spread suggests. Their QB, Worley, has a strong arm and is highly mobile and from what I saw of the Oklahoma game, it looked like Tennessee has some good receivers.

Worley's problem in that game was blindly throwing into tight coverage apparently thinking he could squeeze it in between 2 defenders. That pass on the goal line was tipped and became a pick-6, otherwise Tennessee might have scored completely changing the complexion of the game.

I am not complaining at all. Thomas Davis and Tim Jennings were both football players. If TD10 was at Parkview every program in the country would have been drooling over him. Willie had talent back there. You think he had to coach TW2? Trust me I saw him play in HS. He didnt have to say much.

I've never been able to agree with ya on that. As it was said they had talent there, better than we have had since, and we had a great pass rush. Also had more favorable rules for defense back then. Guys like Blue, Davis, and even Demario Minter would get destroyed by flags.

Frankly, if I am gonna point to anything I point to his secondaries at Georgia during his DC stint, his putrid OU secondaries, his hideous AU one, and now UTs.
