I think Spurrier and some fans are overreacting to the 2 kickoff returns last night. Since Robinson has gotten here (2012) our punt returns have improved, Elliot Fry has been great and we've already blocked 2 kicks this season. Punting has improved this year as well

Kick off returns have seen some improvement this year and kick off coverage was great last week against UGA. And I'm pretty sure last night was the first and second TDs given up on kick offs since Robinson has been here.

I think the issue on kick return coverage will get corrected this week and Robinson should be fine.\

It happens once, it's fine. It happens twice, inexcusable.

Especially after Spurrier said last week before the UGA game "If we kick it to Gurley, we're pretty stupid".

Well, we didn't kick it to Gurley, but we're still pretty stupid.

If Coach Joe Rob and the Spec Teams had been playing this year like last year, that last game would've got him fired. HOWEVER, up to the Vandy game, our Spec Teams were looking average nationally, which was a HUGE improvement from what we fielded last year.

I think what got Spurrier's balls in a vice was that we had looked good on Spec Teams for 3 weeks, and then we reverted back to the shite from last year. We had a guy run 2 KO's for TD's against us when we have not run 1 back in a long time.

Coach Joe Rob is going to have to show even more improvement throughout the season with his squad. I don't think for a second that his seat is not HOT right now. It was red hot coming into the season and he cooled it down, but now it's red HOT again.

Still, our KO Return, PR, FG, and Punting are SOOOO much better than last year. We have to fix KO Return and PR Defense.

We've gotten notably better. Truth be told maybe Joe didn't expect to return. Sometimes our kicker blasts touchback after touchback, but couldn't seem to do it last night.

As been mentioned, our FGs and Punts have been a lot better and we've already blocked 2 FGs. Special teams as a whole has been better this year.

Honestly, I think Spurrier may have over exaggerated how angry he was.

I think he wanted kick up the intensity in his players. I could just be trying to justify everything though.

Those returns were inexcusable. He's got an opportunity to turn it around. We'll see. He's definitely a liability in recruiting as I see it.

TBH, I'm not concerned w/ last nite. We played sloppy but we got the W. To be expected after the emotional UGA win. I think you see a fired up team this wknd for Mizzou. Especially w/ ESPN there.

What? How do you figure? Don't we already have a kicker committed for next season? A 3* according to rivals which is pretty high for a kicker.

IMO we have had some fortune in individual players that are quality, but this goes back to prior to Robinson joining the program. Succop & Lanning were quality FG kickers and punters, and now Fry is threatening to perhaps out-do both of those in terms of consistency if not distance (Succop).

In 2007 & '08, Chris Culliver rose up and became a top 30 national KO returner. In 2012, Ace Sanders rose up and became a top-10 national punt returner, but both did this IMO more off of their guile, speed, and shiftiness rather than the return teams as a unit playing well together and opening up lanes for them. There were a number of times where the return team committed fouls that called back some great returns of Ace, which frustrated him a bit...

This is where the issues are: the team units, not just individuals. Team coverages for our own returns, and team coverages against opposing returns have been quite poor for years now. I do not see much improvement in these areas under Coach Joe Rob - other than that #10 PR ranking in 2012 in his 1st year as STC, we've ended ranked 114th last year and are currently 117th this year in PR.

In fact most of our team-STs rankings - not stats produced by one individual, but by entire units of players (special teams) - have been ranked in the bottom of the top half nationally (60s) at best, or well down in the lower half (90s-100s) at worst, for years, or as far back as 2008, cfbstats.com's first year of recording stats.

That's not good at all. As Coach Spurrier stated earlier today, he sees all the other teams we play finding ways to have decent STs play - why can't we ever develop decent STs play, without relying on individual players taking matters into their own hands?

As a recruiter he expected to recruit more that kickers. Coaches recruit areas and assist on their possition groups. I agree with the previous poster that robinson seems like a liability on the trail.

Okay well he also has a TE and an RB under his wing in this class. Got a 4* TE last year and got an OL, DB and QB Connor Mitch the year before that.

I don't keep up recruiting in too much detail but have reports come out about his recruiting technique? Is he a bit lazy on the recruiting trail? Have recruits come out and said he rubbed off the wrong way on them?

My thoughts?

LINK

He brings very little to the table. With the exception of a few special athletes (Ace, Small Fry), our special teams aren't very special and haven't been for years. He is one of, if not our worst recruiters. Time to say good bye.
