This drives me nuts. What advantage does it give us? I get why teams with Pocket QBs do it but I'd say Bray < Marshall as a runner and thrower.

Tonight we got Marshall rolling a little bit then pulled him so we could run the Wildcat with JJ at WR. It was mind boggling to me. Ruined the rhythm of the drive and ended up kicking a FG.

So can someone explain why to me? We've done it before tonight and it's never made sense to me.

Because Gus can be a stubborn dumbass by getting too cute with the play calling.

I think we were trying to trick them. It did not work.

This version of it with Bray WQB I have no idea. The older versions with Guys like McFadden running it I understood. It works best when your WQB is a power guy. If this team is going to use it then it's better suited with a guy who can run between the tackles like CAP. With that said, I agree with you, the timing using those plays was horrible tonight. I guess every offensive coach out thinks themselves sometimes.

Yeah but it didn't work when they used cap last year either. He got several snaps in that package with similar results to last night. Honestly that one play where grant got around the edge because everyone was focused on JJ should have been the only play. You fooled them once, you can't do it the very next play and expect it to work. They should have just brought Marshall back in or put JJ at qb.

Because Gus is our coach. He will never let it die

Kansas St was confused.
Auburn was confused.
The announcers were confused.
We were confused.

Drive confusingly stalled.

It was very confusing.

Just something we will always have to deal with Gus on. I will say yesterday was one of the few times since he has returned where I felt like Gus was off. He didn't have a rhythm to his playcalling and it showed.

If Jeremy Johnson ran the wildcat it would be dominant. Similarly to when Cam ran the wildcat. Give us the power run game it is trynig to set up but keeps defenses honest with the passing threat.

Why it always failed with MIchael Dyer, he coudln't throw.

McFadden at Arkansas had like 5 TDs throwing that year which explains why it was so successful there

KState scored running the wildcat. Maybe the wildcat works in practice against the defense.

From the two yard line. Most running plays work from there

We also stuffed it nearly every time they ran it. One stuff led directly to the Jonathan Jones INT

The INT he had because he got burned by Lockett and Lockett choked

The Wildcat is good sometimes because there are some fun things you can do with it if executed correctly. For instance, our first Wildcat play was a decent gain.

But you know what? It never works twice.

For the sake of getting things on film for other coaches to have to spend time planning to defend against

And then we change the gameplan around it entirely

We got a 18 yard play out of it when it was 1st and 20.

The wildcat did not ruin that drive. A bad holding call did.

How could it be the wildcat if Cam or JJ is running it?

Feel free to make fun of me if this is dumb question.

Does anyone actually believe we ran the wildcat in 2010. Reason I ask is because I got into a discussion with a buddy last night that was convinced we ran the wildcat 85% of the time in 2010. I'm of the opinion it was more like spread option with power run schemes.
