I've had many people in the office this week talking about Auburn's unstoppable "spread" offense. Do people not see the FB/TE/HB

Because Gus spread Nick and Bert's cheeks so wide they went crying to the NCAA about it

They don't understand football I guess

Because we're HUNH
People don't understand the difference

What do you think Florida ran under Meyer? It's still a spread offense

Is there a rule against using these positions with the spread?

They are lazy. We run a HUNH with a variety of formations. Sometimes we run out of a spread formation, but not typically.

It's a Power Spread if you ask me.
Think of it this way:
Georgia Tech and Urban Meyer at UF ran a Triple Option Offense. GT ran it from a normal spread set with their OL. Meyer widened the OL splits and spread the field, but ran the same basic plays (though with Mullen he was far more imaginative with his counters and constraints IMO).
Same offense, different OL formations, stressed defenses in similar yet different ways.
For the record, Oregon uses FB's and TE's and H-Backs religiously. So do a lot of Spread Teams. That means nothing.
Spread usually means you're widening your splits your OL uses to line up. But a lot of Spread teams vary those based on alignment, fronts and techniques being used by the Defensive Fronts. To the point where sometimes they never get as wide as what one would consider a true "Spread Offense" to be a hallmark of. Doesn't mean they aren't a Spread Offense.

We also huddle this year.
UGA is runing more plays than AU.

this is it, AU runs a variety of formations and the goal is to allow the defense as little time as possible to see the formation before the snap.

It's because Auburn runs a spread offense.

I see a lot of 3 Wide sets so I'd consider it a spread. But a "Spreads not a Spread is not a Spread" to qoute Verne and Gary.

I do not think this means what you think it means.

The spread offense is any offense that spreads out the defense. To be honest the HUNH offense can be ran out of a 2 tight and 1 wr offense. Hell the service academies and Georgia Tech run the spread out of the triple option and it also is a HUNH offense.
