1) If I were Odysseus, and I was on an island with a spicy hot nymph god wanting to marry me, the book would've lasted 2 chapters.
2) Could Penelope be more worthless than she is from cover to cover? Maybe she could've spent a little more time crying and blue-balling guys for 20 years.
2) Telemachus is a big fat puss. He should stop being a big fat puss. If I were Odysseus I would have "mistaken" him for a suitor at the end.

My favorite literary work of all time. I've read it front to back probably 6-7 times. Love The Iliad as well.

One of the most badass scenes in literature is when Odysseus slays all of his wife's suitors.

This is one of those classic works I feel like a failure having never read. Especially having a degree in Lit.

I can honestly say, I don't like Homer's works.

They're worse in Greek.

Why? Do they retire at page 30 and go to the beach?

You should review the theatrical version.

When Odysseus strings the bow and nods to Telemachus, I'm like

HJJ, if you like crime novels read Greg Iles Natchez Burning. It's the first of a trilogy.

But he writes a lot of books with the same central character, I like him better than Grisham when it comes to crime drama.

There is legit criticism to make, although I did prefer The Iliad to The Odyssey.

Nothing in that book beats when Odysseus leaves his wife to begin his journey. It's a work of art, honestly.

Read Jeffrey Deaver (lincoln rhyme) and Lee Child (Jack Teacher) as well.

I enjoy Lee Childs' books

He suffers a bit of Clive Cussler disease in that all his bad guys are maniacal psychopaths bent on destroying the world.

Sometimes I just want a mildly sociopathic manipulative person bent on the drug trade or money laundering.

we had to read this as a class in like 9th grade or something. It was really tough to follow when it's read aloud a paragraph at a time...especially when they ignore punctuation and just read everything as one giant run-on sentence.

point is I hated the book b/c of how I first experienced it.
