As always this list chronicles the top SEC running backs by production on the field to date for the current season. Objective statistics are the primary criteria utilized in formulating this list, however, the statistics are set into context based on the quality of opponent upon which the statistics were accumulated. In some instances where the choice is close, a subjective eye test is also taken into account. However, hype, injuries, suspensions, etc. are not. This isn't a list of most talented or a prediction of NFL draft status. It is just an unbiased look at which 5 SEC RB's are getting the job done the best on the field. As such, this list will likely drastically change each week, especially early in the season.

Note: This list only looks at performance at the RB position. Thus, kick and punt return yardage aren't part of the evaluation. However, receiving out of the RB position is accounted for.

1. Todd Gurley - still an easy choice at number 1 despite the loss.

2. Alex Collins - TT's run defense is putrid, but Collins earned this spot for now.

3. Cameron Artis-Payne - Off week allowed Collins to move past CAP this week.

4. Matt Jones - Solid game against an SEC opponent. How he performs against Bama will be his true test.

5. Johnathan Williams - His numbers are scewed due to poor competition, but no other back has made a strong enough case to have the 5 spot at this point.

Worth a mention:

Josh Robinson - Could vault up the ranking with a good game against LSU.

Corey Grant - He remains one of the most consistently efficient runners in college football.

Jalen Hurd - good game in a losing effort against a quality opponent

TJ Yeldon, Kenny Hilliard, Marcus Murphy and Russell Hansborough - backs with numbers that are moderated due to sharing the load.

Matt Jones has looked really good this year. So much better than last year when he was sick early, and then injured.

He is really a load to take down, especially late in games.

Cant get 20 carries and takes himself out of the game too much to be #1...esp at an "easy choice"

Why don't ya google Nick Chubb's yards per carry. If I'm not mistaken I think he leads the SEC and he had a broken thumb.

I am not talking about quality of opponent. I am talking about longevity throughout the game.

I would swap Gurley and Collins.

Gurley had 20 carries at USCe plus 4 catches. I don't know what you are complaining about.

Gurley averages more touches per game than Collins, has the same yards per touch and has produced his numbers against superior competition.

I would be abandoning the criteria if I switched them.

You understand that Williams only averaged 3 yards per touch in that first game and has generated his impressive numbers against Nichols and TT, right?

Are your rankings for just this past week or a sum of the whole season?

Now that SEC play begins, expect Yeldon/Henry to take 2 of the top 4 spots.. No need to run your guys in the ground against shite teams, especially when your qb needs experience! The season starts this week!

Jalen Hurd is going to be a special player. What he did against Oklahoma, running behind our OL, was extremely impressive.

Your jealousy for the University of Georgia is beginning to stink really bad. I understand you didn't get into the school, but don't take it out in every thread.

Gurley is by far the best RB in the SEC and it has shown, including the TD return on kickoff.
