With all the successful Grind and 0/10 response threads going on, I figured we could use a level-headed thread to discuss the series strange history.

107 total matchups(LSU leads 69-35-3):

-Only 21 of those 107 games have been hosted in Starkville.
-11 of those 21 have been played over the last two decades.
-LSU hosted every game from 1934 to 1957, minus three.
-In 1914, LSU didn't play MSU due to the Dawgs four straight years of shutting LSU out. On the 100 year anniversary mark(2014), it seems likely the Dawgs are finna eat.

Why were so many games hosted by LSU? Considering no one leaves Death Valley alive, why do LSU fans brag about this? Never seen such a weird series history between close rivals. I'm actually impressed with how close the series is, especially once the MSU win streak, that Dak and Mullen are about to start, is added to the record W/L...IMO.

In 1982, MSU won 27-24

Knowing how shitty of a town Starkville is now, can you imagine how bad it was right after the depression? Sheesh

Neither State nor Ole Miss had a stadium with the capacity of Tiger stadium. It wasn't until 1948 that state had max capacity of 30,000. LSU had that capacity in the mid 1930's.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Did Jackson or such not have a stadium for that capacity?

Thanks for the answer, by the way.

Why?

This rivalry is LSU's longest and Mississippi State's second behind the Egg Bowl against the University of Mississippi.

If you disregard the games where LSU had to cheat to win, State leads the series by 12 games.
