Roc Thomas will be our featured back by midseason. And it really shouldn't be close.

CAP and Grant are nice backs, but neither one has the gamebreaking ability and elusiveness in one that Thomas has. He's the best overall back on our roster, and heeds to get more touches.

Thanks coach.

Until I see it in a real game, Roc Thomas does not possess a running style that will excel against any good SEC defense. The spinning shite he tries every time he touches the ball may work in HS, but it is a gimmick at best in real football. Note that I am not saying he sucks (for those that can't read), but he needs time. He needs to get bigger and stronger, period. Backs of his talent often develop terrible habits in HS because they can do whatever they want on the field and get away with it.

If it were based on pure running ability then you'd probably be right. Roc will continue to get more playing time as the season progresses but will likely not be the feature back until he learns to picks up blitzes well in the pass game. At last report as of a week ago he was still struggling with that.

I have said this since we got him. He would need to change to more of a north south runner. Not so cute

IMO, Cap is our best back right now

Not a very good idea. Bring him along slowly. CAP is going to be just fine this year.

Although he may have the most potential at RB, I am guessing he does not have the necessary skills to be an every down back right now. Im sure he has much learning to do when it comes to blocking and pass protection.

I also wonder of Michael Dyer has anything to do with him getting extremely limited PT thus far? Dyer came in as a true freshman and rushed for 1000 yds. I imagine it went to his head pretty quickly, which may have led to his downfall. I don't know...jmo.

agreed.

CAP has been a bonafide All SEC running back so far this year. ALWAYS falls forward. Never goes down on first contact, has shown the wiggles to make people miss in space. Sure, he doesn't run a 4.4, but he still breaks off big runs.

No shot we should be replacing him. If someone else proves they're worthy of taking more carries on, then that's one thing but to completely remove CAP from the every down role he's earned would be silly IMO.

Roc showed promise but in the limited carries we have seen it is impossible to believe that he would somehow take over as the feature back. I honestly believe when possible Gus doesn't really want a feature back. Last year with Tre was special because of how important the zone read was to our one legged offense. NM and Tre had a unique chemistry together as it pertained to the zone read. As the offense becomes more diverse I believe CGM will want two backs sharing the load plus the speed sweep guy. At least his other teams all featured this approach until last year.

No kidding. He had like two decent runs against SJSU who were sucking wind and then he fumbled. It's hilarious what people can convince themselves of when they really want to.

The way our zone read works, guys like CAP and Tre, who are willing to just take what's there and pick up 4, 5, 6, 7 yards a pop are much more valuable than someone who is going to try and make a game breaking run every time.

If we "stay ahead of the chains" our offense is nearly impossible to stop but if we lose yards trying to bust a run outside on first down we get into trouble.

There is nothing overly special about Tre or CAP except their ability to carry the massive load and take what's there.

And you are basing this on what? His high school film? Good call.

GIF never gets old. And to the OP, I liked the energy Roc ran with but he will get busted in the mouth if he tries all those spin moves against a good SEC defense. He is talented though.

I think he needs to get more touches. He won't develop until he gets some serious field reps.

But, I don't think he needs to start or vulture carries from CAP at all. He should remain a fourth quarter possibility, not a first quarter priority.

In all honesty we need to see more of Barber right now anyway.
