Momentum or Execution

I was listening to the post game of MNF. Lewis, Dilfer, Young and some guy were talking about reviewing penalties or potential penalties during the last 4 minutes of the game. (By the way, I like adding Lewis, he's got a ton of energy and he's just entertaining to listen to.)
Ray Lewis brought up the whole argument that momentum is huge, momentum can be everything. However, I've always thought that momentum is just a by product of proper execution of a lot of individual responsibilities. However, I understand that momentum comes from a mental state that a person or team creates for themselves.
So which came first, momentum or execution?

I would say execution: you need a foundation of something positive in your team's favor to create/generate momentum, and that usually takes the form of execution. Of course, your team can have momentum generated by mistakes created by the opposing team, but that pretty much has to do with execution as well - poor execution on the part of the opponent....

Can't have momentum without execution imo

Momentum is not about a splash ... it's about a wave. It can start as a ripple, from a splash, sure ... but it builds as energy concentrates as the wave gets closer to shore.
Sorry for the cheap metaphor ... I thought it better than "get the ball rolling downhill."
Execution is usually a methodical and boring process.
Momentum is the result of being in a groove .... feeling it, feeling unstoppable. Electricity in the air. Hard to explain.
Momentum can turn on a dime. Big plays. Lucky bounces. Good or bad calls by the refs. Just about anything can be a momentum changer.
Best examples of momentum I have ever personally witnessed were ...
Our basketball team vs Cincy some years ago ... big comeback. Antoine? Anthony? I can picture the kid but can't remember his name.
Two years ago down at Florida ... we never had it. They did, lots of it.
Two years ago vs UGA here at home. We had it all night.
That Devan Downey game against Kentucky. It was a classic ebb and flow game with a dozen momentum changes.
But momentum can carry over multiple games and even seasons as evidenced by our postseason runs in baseball for those three years.
It's about confidence. Feeling it. Invincibility.

Execution.

There's some random, batshit insanity to momentum sometimes as well, though. That holding call on Saturday was the kind of holding that is usually overlooked or ignored... but this one was what kept momentum on our side instead of boosting UGA's exponentially.

Here's something to kick around in your head.
Consider this.
Consider that if that game had started on-time we would have lost it going away.
A ninety minute delay, give the crowd plenty of time to get hyped-up and moved closer to night time ... and we win. We come out, drive down the field and score on the wave of excitement and electricity that was building from the delay. Fans stayed, they stuck around.
So there was a certain air of momentum that carried into the stadium before kickoff.
