OT: Did you get whipped/spankings as a child?

I sure as frick did, as did everyone I knew growing up. I wasn't aware of someone not disciplining their children this way until the past few years.
Has this always been the case? Or are people more PC as of late.

Got either a spatula, wooden spoon, old man's back hand or the belt. But not terribly often cause I was a good kid. And I was one of those who felt terrible when the old man would give a "I'm not mad I am disappointed" lecture.

Yep, got paddled at school and whipped with a switch, belt or a dog leash at home. I was always doing something wrong.

My grandmother was hell with a fly flap....and if you know what that is, you're good people.

Always with the belt. Around and around in a circle. My Dad's eyes bugging out of his head. Then, 10 minutes later. the "I love you, but you made me do it" speech. The disappointment was always worse than the sting.

That's a good one. Or the " This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you" shite.
frick that. Now way in hell you hurt worse than me. The belt might feel some pain but if this hurts your arm more than my arse you need to get in shape dad.

I got smacked around. Am a father of two now and will never deal with my kids in that manner. Doesn't accomplish anything. Only creates fear and resentment. I really have no interest in my kids cowering in my presence.

When I was being bad I got a good whooping. Always hated a switch though I would rather get the belt than a switch, especially cause my mom would make us get the switch we were gonna get whipped with. Damn switches were like a cat of nine tails.

I will pop the kids on the bottom with an open hand but I agree with you. There is a distinct line between discipline and a beating.

My dad once broke a board off a fence to beat my (and my brothers') arse with. It's funny now, he was so frustrated 'cause he couldn't find anything else suitable to beat us with.

Worst one I got was for not cutting the grass while he was outta town for a week for work. Took the spark plug out and would pull and yank it....it's broke mom. I was a trailbike riding, creek swimming 9 year old.
Forgot to put it back in before he got home. Pop did 2 tours in Vietnam with the USMC.....Pretty sure I was Charlie and he had a flashback.
