team? With our (non) oversigning and our disciplinary/drug testing policies?I realize
we're doing a little better in regards to the oversigning part these days.

Is that game completly different if we have JHC,Shaq and Tray Mathews?

You can have all the "team players" and "effort" guys out there you want but if you don't have top tier talent you get the exact results we had Saturday in our secondary.

Yes

JHC would have helped a lot. Shaq and Tray not so much, imo

Sorry,it's a legit question. You really think we have the talent/depth in place to compete year and year out with the likes of Bama.LSU and it looks like now A&M?

When was the last time we had top tier and experienced talent on both sides?

You really think our sececondary is anywhere close to competing on an SEC top tier level?

Hard to say. Richt has yet to produce a complete team IMHO. The 2002 and 2005 teams were good relative to the competition at the time but the competition has increased significantly in the later half of Mark's tenure.

Yes, undersigning has been an issue but I don't think we should compromise on discipline.

Possibly, we will never know. They were highly ranked recruits with experience. But the choice was theirs and they chose to to follow team rules/NCAA regulations.

I agree with this. We have not had shutdown CB's in many years and we have never recruited as well on the OL as our toughest competition. Exhibit A: SC's OL played better than our OL in the game Saturday. Thompson had plenty of time on the vast majority of their pass plays and they got significant rushing yardage with a backfield not nearly as touted as our own.

We were off by 5 yards 2 years ago, so it's pretty obvious that the answer to your question is no. We will never be close

Yes. We have the talent every season. From the first scholarship to the last, this roster takes a backseat to no one in talent, and that is what's so frustrating sometimes about this program. There is enough talent on this roster to walk all over just about every team they line up against, but sometimes that doesn't translate to the field.

Nope I dont think we will. We lack a true shut down corner like a poster mentioned. Our Oline is usually just avg or good, but never dominate. When we do have a team good enough on one side to overcome the lack of talent on the other, we get hit with injuries (last year).

I think we also need to relax on the failed drug tests for weed. We are behind the times in this department compared to other teams. No way JHC soulda been kicked off for weed, and then throw in the fact he was our best db.

This is my thought exactly...talent aint our issue...underachieving and low expectations performance wise is the problem, in my opinion...

2012 would like to have a word with you. As bad as the defense was 8 players were drafted by the NFL that year. Imagine what would have happened with a decent defensive coordinator.

Talent is never the problem at UGA.

Take a look at the #1's produced by Bama,LSU and A&M over the same period and how many 5 stars on those rosters...to say "talent is never the problem" is a relative statement in the SEC.

I like CMR as much as the next guy, but unfortunately for us, there's a degree of complacency that comes along with his tenure. We're not going to break through that glass ceiling of mediocrity until they sign someone with an attitude and/or temperament like Pruitt's at HC. Not saying that it's gotta be CJP, or that he should get a shot at a Top 25 school as his first gig, but it's going to take that level of intensity coming down from the very top, and it'll need to filter down through everyone involved in the program till it comes out the pores of the kids 4 deep in the rotation.

That takes time and commitment, and the odd aligning of planets that results in the AD making the right hire. Sadly that clock doesn't start till CMR decides that he needs to go save the heathen souls of the Pygmies more than he needs to hug college kids around the neck and love them first. Losing 3 games a year is de rigeur until then, and at least two of those games must be ones that we should have won.

We've had a LOT of attrition due to character issues over the last few years. Maybe more than other programs... I guess that's the risk of signing talented athletes who are sometimes also dumb shites and thugs. But players we won't tolerate, for some reason other programs are willing to win with them. See: Auburn.
