Another week in and the SEC champion looks that much more like an autobid. As it stands now a 3 loss SECCG winner would probably still get an invite. Seriously, it's like the other conferences are conspiring to get a second SEC team in.

Rundown for the remaining three slots:

ACC: The VAtech meteor has passed just as quickly as it arrived, Unless Pittsburgh is 10 points better than a BC team that is apparently 6 points better than a USC team that is 3... transitive property of CFB is always wrong. ACC is a one bid league with one team contending, the only question is can Florida State drop a game and still get in?

Big 12: A good week that probably won't look so good in a month. Wins over Tennessee and Big10 middleweights (is a big10 middleweight a flyweight or a feather weight FBS wide?) along with a close loss to supposed playoff contender UCLA, these all look good right now, but will any of these teams be considered any good at the end of the year? K-State vs Auburn has the potential to characterize the entire nonconference schedule. Pundits think it's a two horse race between OU and Baylor, but these guys thought Texas would win the conference last year.

B-10: Can Michigan State beat anyone hard enough for people to pay attention? Can the late conversation entrant [Penn State] shock the world and take advantage of its favorable home schedule? Surely beating Michigan State, Ohio State, and Michig... Hello? is this thing on?

Pac-12: Typically conference contenders wait until conference play begins in earnest before they begin mauling each other out of contention. Not so with this Pac-12. USC celebrated its hard fought win over Stanford by succumbing to the football juggernaut that is Boston College (what?) UCLA exorcised it's demons by sidelining that silly QB who kept getting sacked against Virginia and Memphis. Are UCLA and Nebraska competing for least impressive undefeated team? After3 weeks the only team that looks like it controls its destiny is Oregon. Is the lack of fan outrage over Arizona State's lack of national coverage proof of the team's mediocrity? or of the teams lack of a fan base? Or,"If a team dominates in the woods but no one sees it, did it actually happen?"

Independents: Notre Dame and BYU. Shut up no one cares.

and Finally the SEC(w):

a quick mention for South Carolina and Georgia. WHAT ARE YOU IDIOTS DOING? Don't you know people are watching? Ok, back to the West. Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi St, and even Arkansas have done excellent work preparing themselves to be succulent, perfectly marbled, tasty dinners for the 3 As of at-large contenders. if Alabama, Auburn, and A&M can seperate from the rest of the SEC without exposing their victims as frauds, they have a real chance to leave a one loss team out of Atlanta, but in on the playoff. Given the nonconference slate, A&M should probably go ahead and win the conference, as Auburn and Alabama have better resumes to squeeze out a one loss B12 or ACC champ.

Oddly this sets up to provide the SECw runner up what is essentially a bye in the inaugural playoffs, even though they would most assuredly be the worst seed.

USC doesn't have to depth to win anything this year. 53 scholarship players = 4+ losses in that league.

You realize I'm talking about the second SEC team in the playoff right? The SEC winner would be the 1 seed in this scenario.

I think the committee would prefer to make sure only one SEC team could make it to the title, and as the only team in the playoff without a conference title, 4 seed seems appropriate.

At this point the other conferences are going to have to be nearly flawless as any slip up can result in two SEC teams getting in.

The odds of that happening have increased dramatically early as it is painfully clear poll voters view the SEC(w) as a class of its own.

Oregon, FSU, OU, and BU better prepare to go undefeated or lose their spot.

Wow. Nice to be a fricking stepping stone for the real big dogs.

I really hope we embarrass some people this year.

I actually can't tell if you're saying Arky or LSU shouldn't be lumped with the others. I'm not saying the teams are of similar quality. I'm saying they are the same in the context I'm referring to them. all undefeated in nonconference and will provide resume building wins for playoff contenders.

Notre Dame runs the table and they're #2 at worst. They still play Stanford, USC, Florida State, Louisville, and Arizona State.

Uh oh BeatBait, you've damaged the delicate ego of an LSU fan. Better apologize before he smashes his keyboard to pieces.

good write up bear. I think this thread will be horrible though. If if you don't believe it, my suggestion is in the future, say ULSU will be awesome and no one will beat them so they won't melt all over your thread and ruin it.

What? No one in their right mind picked Texas to win the Big 12 last year. Most people had them finishing 3rd or 4th.

When we beat the sugar out of A&M, be sure to stick around for some humiliation. You guys have gotten too big for your britches. I now know why Oklahoma and Texas never let you speak in public when you were their bitches.
