Our Special Teams have flipped

Kicking game has been excellent. 7/7 with 3 FGs over 40 yards. No missed XPs.
Punting game, excellent. Actually only having three punts this season (first in the SEC) is a testament to our playcalling. But a long of 62, an average of 45. It's been great.
However, what the hell happened to our awesome return and return defense?
That punt return against USM cost us 3 points, could have been worse. The returners are letting punts bounce instead of calling fair catches for some odd reason.
Then the return against WVU is just inexcusable. Alabama was one of the best special teams units in college football for the past couple years. Lately it hasn't looked so.

quote:Really? I thought the reason many of us have called for Bobby Williams to be fired was because of the piss poor special teams. LC looked good last year, but we have still had an issue with occasionally giving up TD returns for awhile now.

We've done that in the first game like every year for some reason. VT took one back last year iirc.

You've been under a rock. They've been arguably out biggest liability.

My bad guys I have been neglecting special teams, I have been coaching up the tight ends that Kiffin wont call plays for.

In 2009 VT took one back in week 1 and T.Y Hilton took one back in week 2 for Florida International.
I hope it gets better so teams have to earn it vs the D but this shite is nothing new.
The WV return we seemed to give up on and Henry got shoved in the back. The muff wasn't really a muff but it still cost us 3.
We have gave up 35 in 3 games and 10 have been no fault of the D. The special teams does need to man up though.

You better tighten up coach.
Lucky for you it's all correctable.

There has been quite a few kickoff returns for touchdowns that Bama has allowed since 2008.
Clemson/ 2008
Virgina Tech/ 2009
Florida International/ 2009
Georgia Southern/ 2011
Auburn/ 2011
West Virginia/ 2014
Those are the ones off the top of my head
Miss St. had a 80 yard kick off return to set up there only TD in 2011.
Plus you have the blocked field goal return that gave Georgia a 11 point lead in the 2012 SEC Championship Game. And the last play of the 2013 Iron Bowl.
Then you can't forget about the missed field goals that cost Bama wins against LSU in 2011 and Auburn in 2013.
How in the world is Bobby Williams still at Bama?
