Last year, our special teams were garbage, complete and utter garbage, the only bright spot was Elliot Fry making Freshman All SEC, everything else...garbage.

I thought Coach Joe Rob was on the hottest of hot seats. He hadn't recruited terribly well, his PR/KR, PR/KR Defense sucked and our Punting was some of the worst punting in the NCAA (we were in the bottom 10% of all Special Teams.)

This year you'd have to be blind as a bat not to see the difference. Our guys (Carson) are no longer trying to run it out from 3 yards deep in the endzone only to get tackled at the 17. They're taking the free 25 yards. When UGA switched up tonight and kicked off inside our 5 yard line, Carson broke off a 42 yard run and a 35 yard run (2nd one was called back for holding,) but still we all of the sudden went from a team starting on our 17 to a team starting at the 26 yard line on average.

Then the kickoffs are now going exactly where we want them on pooches or sailing through the endzone. We're holding opponents at 19 yards per kickoff return, that awesome b/c we're starting out closer to 25.

Fry is still doing really well. He's consistent.

TYLER HULL, went from avg'ing 37 yards per punt to closer to over 44 yards per punt this season. HUGE improvement and much closer to the national avg.

We aren't world beaters on PR, but we haven't muffed any.

Then, to top it all off, he gets the #1 Kicker, Joseph Charlton, to commit for this class. Plus '15 RB Mon Denson and WR/TE Kyle Davis for '16. So now he's recruiting top talent.

Coach Joe Rob's stock is going up, it's time to buy.

Yea I really liked what we did on kickoffs and kickoff returns, particularly kickoffs.

UGA dropped one and almost dropped another and we were able to keep the ball away from Gurley all night.

I hope to see the same things going forward.

Exactly, I like our realistic approach to KR now. If the ball is kicked 3+ yards deep, take the free 25 yards on the TB, if it comes down outside the endzone...run it back almost 40 yards.

Watching for the blocks on Carson's long return I didn't think he was going to make it to the 20, then I looked up to find him and he had already cut it back and was hitting that wide open alley along the sideline Good vision from him on that run.

And it was very refreshing to see us take the touchbacks

Perhaps the answer lies in your question: it's true that minus Fry's efforts last season, USC's STs were among the nation's worse in most all other categories. We've been mediocre to poor in seasons past, but last season was especially poor. Perhaps Coach Robinson got "the message" that improvements were greatly needed, and he's put in the extra work.

Also, isn't either Spurrier Jr. or Mangus now helping with STs? Perhaps that extra coaching help is making the difference. In any case, I read that Shon was given specific orders for UGA for him to stand on the goal line, and if any kicks sailed over his head that caused him to back-track for it, to take a knee and the touchback. ONLY if the kicks were in front of him that caused him to step forward to catch it, would it be permissible for him to run it out.

Looks like for UGA anyways, it worked very well....
