I'm personally still just as excited about the future. We obviously aren't there yet but I think you can honestly see improvement across the board, minus the OL and special teams. Hurd has a chance to be special. Our D is aggressive and flies to the ball.

We obviously have to figure out how to block but we did some good things tonight, IMO. I'm also drunk cause we lost.

I am optimistic. Definitely 6+ wins not including the bowl game in my opinion.

Hurd looked great, as did North. Worley needs to get his shite back together, but he more than likely was concussed. OL will gel as the season progresses. Defense is better and clearly faster than it has been in years and years.

That OU front 7 was nasty. Will not see a pass rush like that for the rest of the year.

Great non conference game to get good quality reps against a playoff team that has no bearing on the SEC play.

We'll improve on O. Our Defense is going to be nasty.

I have a hard time blaming Worley for anything tonight. Dude is going to be sore tomorrow.

Feel much better after watching that. OU controlled the entire game but once our defense settled down, they looked solid. Tackling and angles are so much better this year...I'm sure that had a lot to do with added speed.

I honestly don't think Worley played that terrible. I have been a critic of his throughout. The run game was much better in the 2nd half along with the defense. Idk if OU changed their defense to cause that or not.

As said by other in the game thread, play calling was head scratching at times. I really think this team gets a couple of upsets this year. And I think that will translate to 7 wins. Obviously have to eliminate some of the stupid mistakes, but overall I wasn't too disappointed with how they played.

Edit: I just looked at Worley's stats...and they look pretty bad. Still don't get the feel that he played terrible considering he was pressured on almost every single throw.

Processing it all out but I'm pleased. We didn't have Von (there's your Croom INT) and we didn't play Wolf - that put Helm, Coleman Thomas and Jashon all on the right side of the line.

We got see Hurd have a big run against a top team and it looked like the lights really clicked on for him. OU stacked the box all night long and when they didn't Hurd took the ball down the field for big gains.

The line is awful but they were playing a nasty D and we had two - Thomas (RT) and Helm (TE) playing their very first game ever. What I liked was that the offense and the oline looked very much like they were improving in the 3rd and 4th - they were growing up in front of us. What I don't like is how far they have to go.

The D was awesome and kept giving us chances to get back in the game. It was crazy how many times the D shutdown OU.

Just a few thoughts from the game.

- We had a large number of fans dressed crazy, one guy had on a jersey, short, dress shoes and argyle sock. Lot checker board overalls.

- My nephew commented on how many UT fans made the trip he was very surprised.

- The OU fans were not bad, they were mostly oblivious to us from what I could tell, not much interaction good or bad. Talent wise the women were nice but cant touch universities in the south, and they love them some cowboy boots both men and women.

- OU you are a top tier football university, invest in a PA system where the refs don't sound like Kenny from South park.

- Their seat size width compares to Neyland but damn there is less than a foot before you are kneeing the person in front of you. I wasn't too bad because the fans are almost always standing.

- Justin Worley Keep the damn ball every once in a while.

- Like most said I really like our defense and the oline was just too young for a dline of that that caliber. I am still very optimistic about the future, the QB position is what is scaring me after this year. Worley is a good enough game manager when he isn't running for his life.

- The stadium could get pretty loud when they wanted but once the sooners were up they got quiet.

- Boomer Sooner isn't nearly as annoying as we were lead to believe, I'm still mad we didn't have the band there.

- Those bastid love their fireworks and bang stick. They played some really stupid stuff on the jumbotron during commercial braeaks.

- Getting in and out of Norman is a nightmare you have to navigate through all kinds of neighborhoods and side streets and I think it took 45 minutes just to get back to the interstate.

See the UT fans with his face painted white and orange spiked hair.

Awesome write up

I'll post a few thoughts of my own.

- This team plays hard for 60 minutes no matter what the score. I know we should always expect that but after the Dooley years, it's refreshing. That tells me this team has bought in to Butch Jones.

- That blown fumble call in the 2nd really, really hurt us. Massive swing when you consider that they scored right before the half then got the ball to start the second half. Still pissed about that.

- I'm not into moral victories, but it's crystal clear that this team is greatly improved. They seemed shell shocked at first after OU jumped up, yet they kept fighting and punched Oklahoma in the mouth.

- Jalen Hurd is going to be a superstar. No doubt about that. He's getting more and more of the workload and Lane was the one getting the garbage carries late in the 4th.

- I've been one of Worley's biggest critics, but he has improved tremendously and is one of the toughest QBs I can recall at UT. Dude stood in there and took the worst beating I can remember a VOLS QB taking. Which brings me to my next point...

- Jason Croom needs to be buried behind Malone and Smith until he can realize he's the biggest WR in the SEC. Worley put that ball right on the fricking money, only for #18 to alligator arm it and get beat by a 5'9 175 pound CB. You cannot do that shite when your QB is taking the beating of a lifetime.

- I LOVE this defense. Speed all over the place and they play with a nasty swagger that's been missing for a very long time. This OU offense is one of the top 2 or 3 we will face all year and they gave them fits. Did you notice how we were actually chasing the OU guys down when they would hit the second level? Those were touchdowns last year.

- I forgot to mention, we only lose AJ and Coleman from the defense after this year. I'm so pumped thinking of the future, defensively.

- Mike Bajakian is clueless. He needs to flush that fricking jet sweep play down the toilet. It's predictable and does not work against good teams. He's gonna get Pig killed. Going 5 wide on 3rd and 2 from the 4 yard line was just insanely stupid. We had just gashed them all the way down the field with Hurd on the ground. Shitty decision by Worley, but it shouldn't have come down to that to begin with.

- Take out the 2 INTs in the endzone and reverse the fumble call in the 2nd and all of a sudden, this would've been a tie ball game.
It always sucks to lose like this but this team is growing up and we have no reason to not make a bowl this year imo. We're only going to get better this year.

The Cam Sutton hit was even better live.

LINK

Someone sitting next to me said "that young running back you have is going to be good", they were also frustrated at not being about to get the ground game going.

Video isn't great but this is UT coming out of the tunnel.

Coleman Thomas doesn't have the quickness to play OT at this level.

One thing I noticed that hasn't been mentioned... we looked to be better conditioned than OU. In the 3rd and 4th Quarters I expected us to start wearing down but it was the opposite OU's defense and offense (both sides) started to look tired. This despite all their rotations/depth.

Some of that might have to do with us winning the time of possession battle but you'd think as rough as the night was for our team they'd have shown more fatigue than OU.

Certainly looked to be the case. He completely whiffed on a few occasions.

Defense has been tested at an hostile environment (Stoops is 87-5 at Norman) and it's legit. Once D settled down it made some big stops forcing multiple 3 and outs. OU only converted 3 out of 12 third down and they couldn't run the ball at all. After witnessing 2 straight years of swiss cheese D I feel very relived about the defense part.

Offense is sub-par and I don't know what offense UT is running. Is it read option? This offense has no identity. Do we need to sign an elite dual threat QB or what? When can Butch run deadly HUNH like A&M, AU, and Oregon?

Not really imo. You see the running lanes and chances even with Worley. I have no idea why he doesn't pull it and get 7-8 yards every now and then...maybe he's told not to or perhaps he can't read a DE.

That's one reason the play calling was sometimes baffling to me Saturday. I understand balance, but the short timing routes(3 step drop types) were there most of the time. And one draw that went for a big gain. Instead, Bajakian insisted on the zone/read, constant bubble screens, etc.

I know I'm over-exaggerating, but shite, it's almost like he doesn't call plays to the strength of the personnel. Worley was getting hammered and I think I saw 2 RB screens and 1 draw. I just don't understand watching your QB get his shite pushed in when you could call some different plays to alleviate the problem.

The bye week comes at a great time, imo. We get some kids healthy and we have had 3 games to evaluate and make adjustments.

I hope Pearson is back by UGA. We missed his YAC against OU.

We missed Pearson a lot more than I thought we would. Part of it was Jason Croom has got to get it together but a bigger part of might've been that Josh Smith got hurt early in the game and he's been a good big yardage WR for us this year. That left us without 3 top playmakers on Offense and Quez was getting doubled all night without the others (even so that stiff arm he pulled was EPIC). Malone looks like he's coming along as well but he's still whiffing on his blocks.

Now going into UGA we get Wolf back, Von is a 'maybe' but Smith is probably out. Malone is definitely going to have to step up his blocking game - we're going to need him on the field more at UGA.

Listening to the radio today UT is getting lots of praise for the discipline (1 penalty), AJ and Cam getting lots of respect. They also think our running game and receivers are going to be good. I expected them to be touting the win over the SEC. They are all saying in a year or two we are going to be back to where we were before.

I still don't know what to think exactly of this team, I think we ll get the 6 wins but I'm not near as optimistic as everyone else. This schedule is still brutal

ETA: obviously the team is much improved, just not sure How much

I know where I think our team is, but I don't know what to expect from UGA, USC, UF and KY. Those teams seem to be playing jekyll and hyde right now.
