Is this the same as Hudson's Smokehouse in Lexington?

It's OK. that's as much as I can say for it.

Hudson's isn't bad. I think it's pretty popular. But Shealy's BBQ is where it's at.

Shealy's sucks friend. The locals don't eat there, only the out of towners. Shealy's is a pig-out buffet where they good their pork over gas and put too much sugar in everything from the collards to the green beans.

Jackie Hite's is the best BBQ in the area but Jackie is getting old and close to retiring.

Back to the OP's question - honestly, I like Maurice's the best in Columbia, as far as taste, and they still cook theirs over a hickory fire.

There are better places than Hudson's, but Hudson's is not bad.

I like Shealy's. I like Palmetto Pig. I didn't like the Hudson's they had up on Harbison that caught fire and burnt down a while back, I and several people I was with actually got food poisoning there. At least I think it that was Hudson's, it was over by Ryan's and Sam's Club.

They've got good fried chicken and chicken livers.

Their BBQ is just oven cooked chopped pork covered in sauce.

If you like to absolutely stuff yourself, then I agree, Shealy's buffet attracts a lot of over eaters.

Palmetto Pig is the best in Columbia. They let you choose how much sauce you want.

Maurice's floods their shite in the mustard sauce. Way overdone. And all of their restaurants are dumps.

Some of the best food on the planet comes from dives like these.....

I'm guessing you rather have that square of tofu with a celery stick and some sauce drizzled into a design and pay $95 dollars for it?

I've always wondered what BBQ was good in Columbia. I have been to Shealey's before and it's ok. I'm thankful for the place I go to in New Ellenton twice a month, Carolina BBQ. The owner and family are diehard taters, but they know how to cook their pork.

Even though I seldom do, I can eat in dives, but saying Maurice's is overrated and their restaurants are shitty doesn't make me a food snob.

I like Doc's on shop road.

Not crazy about shealy's. Seems like the wal-mart of q.

I think Hudson's is pretty good.

Edit: i forgot to mention, southern belly by the stadium has one hell of a pulled pork sandwich. Slim menu, but they do a kick arse q sandwich.
