Cameron Clear should sit this one out no matter how well his ankle has progressed.

It's their first college football game.

I want to take my neice to a game at Kyle Field before she graduates high school...you know...propaganda and all.

She's a really good soccer player, but I don't know if she's good enough to get an offer from coach G.

Before anyone says it...there's no fricking way I'm posting pics of my neice.

Shaan Washington is back at practice, and more than likely will see action in the SMU game. IMO, pretty big news.

I'd like to see us hold Rice to under 300 yards offense. 200 passing 100 rushing... tall order on the rushing but I think that will really show marked improvement Y-O-Y.

Also I'm not letting my wife know but I'm hoping UCLA hangs 70 on the sips and in the 4th quarter Strong is sitting at the end of the bench with his head in his hands thinking to himself... I should have stayed at Louisville.

I don't know what to think of this game. Part of me wants Texas to hang in there, lose, but chalk it up as a moral victory. UCLA hasn't been impressive in their first two games, so I can see this as a possibility. That way they go into Big 12 play with a little confidence, then get curb stopped by OU, Baylor and OSU.

The other part of me obviously wants UCLA to kill them. Besides the meltdown that would occur, again, Malik will be at this game. I want him leaving saying never in a million years will he play at Texas.

In the end, I think the second option works out the best.

Let's examine Rice's stats from the game last season:

Rushing

Charles Ross - 19 carries, 107 yards, 2 TD (GRADUATED)
Taylor McHargue - 9 carries, 78 yards (GRADUATED)
Driphus Jackson - 10 carries, 55 yards
Darik Dillard - 9 carries, 41 yards

Passing

Taylor McHargue - 18-29-2, 180 yards, 2 TD (GRADUATED)
Driphus Jackson - 3-7, 23 yards

Receiving

Jordan Taylor - 7 catches, 68 yards, 1 TD
Connor Cella - 4 catches, 52 yards
Donte Moore - 4 catches, 31 yards (GRADUATED)
Mario Hull - 3 catches, 23 yards
Carles Ross - 2 catches, 24 yards, 1 TD (GRADUATED)
Derek Brown - 1 catch, 5 yards

Ross and McHargue accounted for all 28 points and 365 yards of offense last year. BOTH ARE GONE

Also, just so we haven't forgotten, we don't have six defensive starters suspended for all or part of the Rice game this year.

Ennis (starting DT) - suspended
Everett (starting CB) - suspended for half
Raven (starting FS) - suspended
Harris (starting CB) - suspended for 2 games
Jenkins (starting LB) - suspended for 2 games
Stansbury (starting DE) - suspended for 2 games

At his current salary, they can't afford to fire him.

Exactly. I don't think they fire him unless they winless in conference play, which won't happen as awesome as it would be. If they go 5-7 or so, which is what I expect, he will be there next year.

This blows my mind. Everyone in Austin kept saying "A&M wins 8 games and give their coach a raise, we win 8 games and fire our coach. Says a lot about their program."

Yet they go out and hire a coach from a small school with no "big time" head coaching experience, and they throw money at it. People can blame Mack, Strong, etc., but their demise should fall directly on the AD's (both of them) shoulders.

The Stats Have Spoken, I'll revise to 200 Yards TTL Offense.

125 and 75.

May be less. I'd imagine that the following defensive players want a measure of revenge and redemption against Rice:

Hardreck Walker
Alonzo Williams
Daeshon Hall (please don't throw a punch)
Julien Obioha
Deshazor Everett
Clay Honeycutt
Jordan Mastrogiovanni
Donnie Baggs
Jay Arnold

Dustin Harris and Shaan Washington won't be able to play

They'll keep him 3 years, no more, no less. Paterson will want to keep him around so he can MAYBE prove that the hire wasn't a total bust, but after 3 seasons, the clamor will be too great.

This year I don't know of any sure wins on the schedule, maybe ISU and KU, with 2 more thrown in.

It'll be:

4-8
7-6
6-7 (Loss to Michigan in the Car Care Bowl)

Then Strong will be fired.

Currently 1-1

vs. UCLA: Loss (1-2)
at Kansas: Win (2-2)
vs. Baylor: Loss (2-3)
vs. Oklahoma: Loss (2-4)
vs. Iowa State: Win (3-4)
at Kansas State: Loss (3-5)
at Texas Tech: Win (4-5 - Tech hasn't beaten the sips since 2008, even lost in 2010 to a 5-7 t.u.)
vs. West Virginia: Loss (4-6)
at Oklahoma State: Loss (4-7)
vs. TCU: Win (5-7)
