I understand I don't post too often on here but if I could just get some thoughts and prayers sent my way. Lt. Governor Cagle is coming to speak at my University in remembrance of today and all who helped to and died saving others. I will be representing my Student Government and saying a few words about my own ceremony I am holding tonight. I just want to have the right words to say while up there.
God Bless Those Who Lost
God Bless America
Never Forget 9/11

You will find the right words to say.
I watched the towers fall at the Tate Center. I was walking out of a Legal studies class and people were discussing the first plane strike as I walked down Stanford Drive. I rushed to the Tate center to see what was going on and I saw the second plane strike. I can still remember how I felt at that moment but I still can't describe it.
God Bless America and Frick MUSLIM extremists.

I was in Real Estate class. I remember the entire class was talking about it, and someone walked in to tell the professor to send everyone home because the second plane had just hit. UGA closed campus right afterwards due to fears of attacks on college campuses. It was an eerie ride back to my apartment listening to the news on the radio. I remember walking into my apartment and my roommates and their girlfriends were watching everything unfold on the TV. The whole room was silent except for the girls crying. It was a rough day for us all.

Prayers for you. I'm sure you'll do a great job. Thanks for doing this.

Just come from the heart man!!
I was in indoc class in Navy "A" school in PCola...whole base went on lock down...I saw young Marines who were there for their rate training being posted all over the base for security...basically pulled right out of their classes...and put on post...we had payphones in the barracks that we all stood in line for so that we could call home...we watched the news all day in a big lounge on the second floor of the barracks...bunch of brand new sailors...not knowing thought our little world was bout to get real complicated...I had the pleasure of supporting OIF in 2005....and serving off the HOA for most of that year doing busts in the south Red Sea...and mouth of the Persian Gulf...
frick them Muslims....but frick all the underlying political BS in our country that was going on at that time...and still is...it was a tragedy...but could have been avoided and might have even been made/allowed to happen...as hard as it is to believe...
never forget!!!

I worked for Delta Air Lines. They shut all operations down and grounded all planes. Then they sent everyone home. Police were blocking roads as thousands of us got in our cars and filed out of work. Lanes of traffic were blocked by the police as we went on I-75. All flights (Commercial air traffic) were grounded for several days. It was real quiet to be at an airport as the familiar engine noise from aircraft was missing.

Carefully consider how you felt when you heard the news. Take enough time and write down the words. You don't have to memorize it like a speech but list the key points. Practice looking at yourself in the mirror only when you deliver slowly turn your head and scan the audience pausing here and there as if you were talking directly only to individuals in the audience. In other words, make it personal because everyone in the audience was likely affected personally in one way or another.

Excellent advice. I was a Speech Major and this is exactly what was taught.

I had graduated from Georgia that August and moved to Jackson, Wy in the beginning of September. We had gone out that night September 10th and the morning of September 11th my mom called me and woke me up when the first tower was hit. That was about 6:45 A.M. Mountain Time.
Through my hungover drunken haze, my and my roommates turned on the radio as the cable had not yet been installed in our place. We strained to hear the NPR station that has hard to pick up in the mountains. When the man started screaming that the second tower had been hit, we all knew that our nation was under attack. At that time with no tv, we could only use our imagination.
I had to go into work about 10 that morning at The Cadillac Grille. As I walked through the square in the middle of town, I didn't see a soul when what was usually a very busy time out there. When I walked into work I saw that all the people that were usually out and about were crammed well over fire code into the restaurant and the only sound you could here were the two tv's. Very, very eerie.
Watching the videos that day almost made me relive the experience twice because my imagination that I used before couldn't comprehend the images I was now seeing. This stuff only happens in movies. Not in real life.
I know "Never Forget" becomes almost cliche, but I can assure you this American will remember always.

I was in a calculus class at UGA when buzz around the class started that a plane had crashed into the WTC. I don't remember for sure, but it seems like class was called early. Took a bus back to my fraternity house and stayed glued to the TV for the rest of the day.
As an aside, UGA had just lost to Lou Holtz and Derek Watson for the second time in a row the Saturday before. The game scheduled for Saturday the 15th was postponed until the end of the year.
I'll never forget the UGA radio station signed off that Tuesday evening with Lynyrd Skynyrd's song "Tuesday's Gone" playing over media coverage of the day.

Shitty day. Still lots of unanswered questions, like how does a steel building that has not been hit by a plane, crash to the ground from internal fires. Google Building 7.

this...if one looks into things....they aren't as clear they seemed on that day...lots of questions marks...i didnt want to turn this thread into that...but...it is what it is...
but...people died...and that in itself is worth getting patriotic about...and worth remembering...RIP all those we lost!!

Yep, houston. Not to get too off track, but I remember there was a big debate about if games should be played that weekend. I believe our next game the following week was home against arkansas and everyone in the stadium held up american flags they passed out beforehand, pretty cool to see. Due to the postponement, that also moved UF/UT to December, and set up one of the best games in that series with a trip to the dome on the line.

I was in 7th grade and just coming out of football practice (in south Texas, football practice was at 6am due to oppressive heat and humidity and that was our first period class). I walked into an algebra class and the teacher was crying. None of us really knew why she was crying, but she turned the tv on and we quickly found out. A good bit of kids got picked up early from school that day by their parents. It was and will forever be one of the worst days in American history, and I still get worked up thinking about it.

Freshman year at UGA. I was on the bus coming back from my 8:00am class, statistics exam. Woke up all my hallmates. We all watched it in the lobby for hours.
We had football practice that afternoon despite classes being canceled. Was going to be the first game I would dress against Houston....game would be canceled the next day.
I have every intention of showing the 9/11 2-part series to my kids when they are old enough to comprehend. Thats documentary starts from well before the of planning of the attack all the way through the months following. Disappointed with all the shows on today, that is not one of them.
