I don't think I've seen this mentioned anywhere, so I figured I'd ask. Those of you who were able to attend the game this last Saturday, was there a noticeable difference in crowd noise?

Having lowered the field, enclosed field, more seats, closer to the field etc. I would expect it to be noticeably louder, but haven't seen it mentioned yet. I'm sure the 2 hr delay didn't help, we were playing lamar and the fact that the game was in hand early, but just looking for thoughts.

Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

it was really hard to tell since we had a 2+ hour delay. The team intro was pretty loud - especially the firecrackers. But by the time the game started maybe 10-15% of the crowd had left and it thinned out to the point that there was no one there by 4Q. The weather delay was pretty dumb imo.

On top of that, there wasn't really much of a game. There wasn't ever a really important moment where you would expect the crowd to be loud tbh.

actually we don't have one, so I'll make this the official review "halfway-new Kyle"

The Good
- the new Vid board is fantastic (thought there is some bad below)
- Facade looks great. I really like the look of the East side
- E King Gill statue. I know it gets a lot of hate for the statue itself but the platform I thought was pretty cool
- New digital Ribbon board is much better imo
- Very few commercials. Amazing how little advertising is in the stadium. Makes the experience so much better to not be inundated.
- No Will Johnson

The Bad
- Cell coverage is still awful
- Concessions on the West side are the exact same and during the weather delay it took over an hour to get drinks
- entry is still mind-bogglingly slow. I think it took us 30 minutes or more from point we got to gate til we entered (South West Gate)
- Rolling scores were often wrong. They had the sip game with them up 28-0 and then 28-3 in the 1st half. Given my phone died from trying so hard to get signal I had no way of knowing that was wrong. They were showing the LSU-Sam game and had the score next to it on the board wrong ffs. They even got OUR score wrong by quarter on the board. It was not good.
- statues
- NorthEast vid board. It's too small. I think it should have been 30-40$ larger
- CannonTV. Wow that was dumb

Unfortunately I can't review any of the new interior because I was on the West side and they wouldn't let me leave and reenter during the delay (I wanted to walk to new South endzone to meet with friends and go to concessions but it was not allowed)

we entered from the south east tower and we got through pretty quickly. Took us about 10/15 minutes

I have row 18 east side north 35 yard line, and yes it was louder even though I could tell the volume and number of people yelling was probably the same. I think for the conference games you will really see a difference.

this

between the opponent and the rain delay it was tough to really get up for the game.

I mean, I think it sounded decently loud at points but I can't really say that it felt overwhelming.

Yes, I went in this way and I thought it was handled extremely poorly. The lines for the alumni side outdoor seats, the suites, and the endzone were all mixed together causing it to move slow as molasses as everyone was trying to figure out which way they were supposed to be going. I have no idea why its so hard for them to set up a system that makes it easier to keep all of these lines separate to makes them move quicker.

Yeah I figured the circumstances with the weather and opponent would make getting a good feel for crowd noise difficult.

As for the other stadium impressions, I suppose a certain amount of issues were to be expected going live for the first time. Hopefully most will get ironed out before first conference home game.

One complaint I heard about, and not sure if they have any intention of changing, is that they are really only using about the middle third of the jumbo screen for gameplay, and the other 2/3 for stats and whatnot. I'd love to see them change that, at least for the majority of the game, and show live action and replays on the entire screen and use the ribbon boards for scores and stats. I imagine it's like watching an sd channel in terms of size scaling on a really nice HDTV.

Either way I can't wait for my first game.

I had seats right behind Lamar Row 3. The last time I sat "that close" to the field was the Arky game two years ago. You're definitely closer to the field and have a way better view then the old seats. The volume difference was also noticeable. It didn't take much to make it loud. Even at the depleted numbers in the forth it was able to get loud. IE Dolezal Touchdown

The current sound system install was done horribly because we couldn't hear any of the things that people were complaining about on the Book of Face. This might be a growing pain till next year but we'll see. We also couldn't hear half of the announcements. The person entering other games scores doesn't know how to work the system because most of the scores were wrong the entire time. The screen resolution is very nice as we were watching the LSU game during the "Rain Delay". It sprinkled for about 10 minutes not really noticeable. I thought it was going to be dreadful after the "Rain" but the way the south endzone was designed it allows for a decent breeze.

It might be time to expand our Yell Leaders numbers. Also one of our Yell Leaders looks like a serial killer when he smiles.

As far as crowd noise, from my lower new SE corner seat, the crowd didn't seem all that loud. It was actually pretty "meh". I can only remember one instance when it was 4th down and it was pretty loud, but outside of that it wasn't loud at all. Maybe it is because I was in the corner and closer to the concourse than I was to the field. Who knows, but I'll definitely have to sit somewhere else next time to see if it was just that location.

PA system was off in our section and what seemed to be the entire new lower bowl section. It sucked balls.

Like stated earlier, the scoreboard of other games were entirely wrong. Texas was not gang raping BYU 21-0 at the 2nd quarter.

Cell phone coverage was decent for me. I was able to use web and video. It wasnt fast, but it was enough (T-Mobile). At&t seemed to be the worst on game day (funny since they are the official partners of Aggie Athletics). One thing people are forgetting is that cellphone coverage won't improve. What should improve is WiFi connectivity, but that won't be on until next year.

Entry to the stadium was a mess. Tbird, you need to check your boys. A lot of fish corps decided it was a good idea to just cut in front of the lines and get in before the people who were standing in the crowded hot line. Pissed me off. New Army has officially gone to hell.

Oh, and obligatory Coke>Pepsi

not at all. On scoring plays I noticed they used the whole screen but it looked too short.

They used about 1/2 the screen for stats. It could possibly be reduced as there was a lot of "white space" but they don't film that wide so you can't use it all. It was designed with the idea of putting stats/scores, etc on each side, not using the whole thing. Least of my complaints tbh.

it's a temporary sound system for this year only. They talked about it at the presser but they were planning on fine tuning as the season goes. They specifically said in July that the system will likely be off in certain areas. Where I was sitting it sounded great but like you, I've seen a lot of people complain. Probably just really hard to test acoustics without people.

99% of use in stadium is data. There is no WiFi at all now so 100k users logging into twitter, instagram, etc while others are checking scores makes it impossible to even send and receive texts. All that currently goes thru the cell towers. So when it moves to WiFi, it will make cell coverage a billion times better

What? why? Because of the smaller one like 70 yards away?

You aint kidding. I saw the stats for a certain stadium that provides wifi and the amount of data they use in and out was amazing.

they had the "cannon" on the practice field and showed the video. We couldn't hear it unless they had it come through the PA system.
