People dogging Nick Marshall's passing against SJSU....

are morons and/or just don't know what they're watching.
I wasn't able to watch the game live (prior engagement for wife's step dad's retirement party), so I have re-watched the game twice now and made sure to pause and really pay attention to each pass he made in each situation. What I saw is a MUCH MUCH MUCH improved passer in every way imaginable.
Out of 19 passes there were only two that i recall that were just flat out missed throws. One was the first slant to Duke. The second was when he threw behind Ray across the middle.
I've seen people point to a poor throw to Ricardo Louis on a deep ball, but on that play he recognized man coverage deep with no safety help on a big bodied Ricardo Louis and he gave him a deep jump ball opportunity. We all killed Marshall for overthrows on deep balls last yr and now he fixed that.
There was another throw to Tony Stevens that initially looked like a missed throw by NM, but Stevens hesitated out of his break, otherwise it was an absolutely beautiful throw, perfectly timed.
On another deep fade to Duke, that would've been a TD if the CB didn't (smartly) get pass interference. Again, great recognition by Marshall.
He also didn't put the ball in jeopardy when deep plays were called. Him taking the check down to Grant is a big, big step in his maturation as a passer.
Folks, NM has made unbelievable improvements as a passer and certainly has become a dangerous passer, despite the stat line showing 10-19. That was one of the more misleading stats of the year so far.

I have fairly unimpressed with our WR outside of Duke so far.
Sammie, CJ, and Ray all have had drops and I don't think Louis is much of a WR personally.

NM passing sucks compared to JJ, but NM is one of the best in the business at running the read option.

Not really...I have counted 4 drops by our WR, from Nick, that had they been caught, both QB would have the same completion percentage and Nick would have more tds.

Don't think anyone is arguing this

He consistently throws it high and difficult to catch for receivers.

RiCardo had the DB beat, if he is throwing him a jump ball he needs to not throw it short. On Ricardo, he should have came back more for the ball and got the PI

It is more that JJ is so dominant as a passer rather than Nick Marshall is THAT BAD

NM kinda reminds me of Jay barker in that neither were a super great passer, but made the throws when they counted and relied on the running game to win.
that said, JJ is amazing in there and I am VERY comfortable with him leading the offense going forward.

True, but if the receivers would have caught them you would have said "Wow, what a catch". CJ and Melvin's drops were behind them. Coates has dropped the only ball that was close to on the money. Nick is what he is. He will never be an elite passer. Melvin made a tremendous catch on a poorly thrown ball from Nick in the first game. JJ is a far superior passer. It's very obvious. I'm not saying Nick is a bad QB. His skill set is just different than JJ's.

No, I counted 4 that hit the receivers in the hands or chest.

Yeah.....I didn't see this

I think you may need to watch again. He had so many throws that were behind the receiver that made it difficult to catch. Or up high. And one sad little ball that was sort of lobbed at a receiver's feet.
Again, like I've said previously, I think NM is the guy unless he really craps the bed. I'll just personally be glad when we have a great passer in there again.

What? We had a cup of coffee with Cam for about 6 games of the 2010 season. When has Auburn had a great passer?
Jason Campbell
D Craig

I have always felt that Campbell at the tools to be elite but no coach ever took advantage

I believe history has shown that entire offense was one of the most under utilized groups in the history of college football.

THIS is exactly what I'm talking about.
Do you have ANY clue as to why that ball was thrown at Duke's feet? NM read blitz before the snap and Duke was the hot receiver. Duke was supposed to cut off his route if he read the blitz but Duke didn't read it. NM read it perfectly and Duke didn't.

Marshall is just trying to get completions and keep the offense moving. He's no longer trying to make the absolute perfect pass and risk overthrowing his WRs. He knows his WRs have the talent to win the one on ones with most DBs. Will he ever be Drew Brees, no way. But anyone who didn't just casually watch the SJSU game while drinking beer could watch that game and see a wildly different and better Nick Marshall than what we saw in 2013.
