Reading this board last season, you would have though AJ McCarron is just another run of the mill average QB.
Reading the board this season, it seems the board has now morphed him into a mega playmaker that was the key to Alabama's offense and they will be lost without him this season.
It seems now that he is gone people have a better for appreciation for how good he was.

He wasn't average, he was above average, but he was most certainly a game manager.
When you had his OL, and his RBs, his WRs, and his defenses...all you basically have to do is not frick up.

AJ was the playmaker and Johnny was the system QB. Who woulda thunk it.

He was basically like Troy Aikman with the Cowboys...
He won games. He was better than Dilfer on the Ravens but he isn't Tom Brady.

I actually agree with this statement.
But he was a ball protecting, fairly accurate QB that knew the playbook well.
Some people prefer those over trying new things. Even if those things are really hard to sack and can actually scramble while utilizing your best skill positions equally.

He was a good football player so it doesn't matter. He did what his coach asked of him and won games.

You can tell he wanted to air it out more but without Saban reining him in, he would have made more mistakes and not been as effective. The Bama offense will always roll, it does not matter as much about the QB because as long as he gets the ball to the RB and WR and TE and avoids mistakes he will win games because of the defense.

Although still a douchebag, he had one of the softest passes to AC what seemed like every game last season. They were definitely in sync.

Uh no, just Bama fans.

Best way to describe him is that he was a winner.
Dude won a shite load of games and did not make mistakes.

Not sure, the Bengals haven't even played a game yet.

What does that have to do with what he was in college?

If McCarron plays out the entire contract with the Bengals while meeting certain incentives, the deal has a max value of $2.559 million.
Not too shabby for a game manager.
