Because flipping burgers, is a career and all...

quote:

"I want a better future for my kids," said New York demonstrator Rutila Nunes, 38, who helps support her two teenage sons on the $8 per hour she earns as a prep cook at McDonald's.

quote:

In Kansas City, protester Dana Wittman, 38, said the $9 per hour she makes at Pizza Hut isn't enough to make ends meet for her family, which includes three grown children. "I have to choose between paying my rent and putting food on the table," she said.

Wittman thinks workers' message isn't getting through to employers: "They are trying to swat us away like flies."

But.. it's not fair to have to work more than 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week. Someone is owed to be given more for the lifestyle they choose!

It is not that hard to find a job that isn't fast food.

Are the grown children working? If not, why?

Its really not.

There are a ton of jobs that pay more than $8 and you dont have to serve ppl food.

You can work in a warehouse making $15/hr and yo udont have to deal with stupid ppl.

Some of them were arrested here in Atlanta for sitting down on a busy road and blocking traffic.

I'm not sure why they think that they're entitled to $15 an hour. I don't eat fast food often, but when I do... well, they rarely get a simple order right and are usually rather curmudgeonly.

High school drop outs don't deserve to make as much as fire fighters, EMT's, nurses, and others working in skilled jobs.

Atlanta is not the place to be sitting in the road.

They arrested a bunch here in Vegas for blocking the Strip for a while. I really don't understand this whole thing.

Is it that the economy sucks so bad that they can't find better jobs, or do they just prefer the fast food industry and feel they should make more? Either way, they're not talking to the right people.

They're low skill workers. They don't have many options.

This makes me have a greater appreciation for the mexicans who work drive up at my local McDs. If you dont order in Espanol, your order will get fricked up.

I can't even wrap my mind around a fast food worker thinking they do anything that resembles something deserving of making $15/hr.

If they're not making that much they almost certainly qualify for Pell Grants. They could go to school to further their education whether it be a traditional degree or a tech/trade school.

Absolutely. Most of them have no desire to do that though. Judging their grammar and ability to perform such simple tasks as taking a small order and getting it correct, many could never even be accepted into an institution of higher learning.
