Sorry if it's been discussed: If UF goes 5-6 can they apply for a bowl waiver?

I doubt it considering they both had a corresponding open date.

If they do, they will be looking for a new coach and probably will not be too worried about a bowl game.

WTF is a bowl waiver?

But 5-6 may be good enough to win the East, so they'd still have the SECCG to try to get to 6 wins.

If they go 5-6 they should decline a bowl invite if they get one.

If we only have 5 wins, I don't think making bowls would be a concern.

You have to win six games to be bowl eligible expect in certain circumstances which is where the bowl waiver comes in

Apparently teams can apply for a waiver to go to a bowl due to unforeseen circumstances.

For instance...take the 2011 UCLA Bruins. USC was on probation thereby allowing UCLA to win their division that year. UCLA finished the season 6-6 and was going to play Oregon in the Pac 12 Championship Game. If UCLA lost the game they would be 6-7 and thus ineligible for a bowl game due to having a losing season.

Since they argued that they were forced into the Pac 12 Championship Game, the NCAA allowed them to remain bowl eligible despite losing to Oregon. They ended up losing their bowl game and finished 6-8 on the year.

It should be. Those extra bowl practices are valuable.

UF will have more pressing issues on its hands if they go 5-6. Like finding a new HC.

They'll just do what UT-UF had to do after 9/11 cancelled our game and move it to another date. Since it's an OOC team instead of a conference game, UF will probably pick up whatever team happens to be available on the dates they have open. It's a pain but it can be done.

Except that we aren't doing that. Just going with an 11 game schedule this year. It's a tad weird for sure but Idaho didn't want to come back because of their bye week/schedule situation and we didn't want to pay them again.

Wrong. They announced they will only play 11 games this year.

Well I can understand Idaho not coming back but I figured y'all would pick up some cupcake replacement. It's happened before but I can understand why it might be more difficult if your byes are later in the year since FCS schools are more worried about how they finish in their division and playoffs and don't want injuries derailing that. I'm surprised the AD has already decided to just say 'frick it - 11 it is.'
