No. None close. Well, what do you define as close?

parking and walking distance for hotels and I think we may pass on the trip after hearing all the horror stories from fellow fans.

I highly doubt there are hotels close to the stadium this close to the game. I'm sure there are plenty in the city. The stadium area is a big parking lot you'll find room

Finding parking isn't hard. I wouldn't skip it. It is a good atmosphere. All the stadiums I have been to in the SEC have one issue or another.

Is the fairground parking around the area free or do they charge to get into those surrounding areas?

I don't know I didn't park personally. I'm assuming there is free parking somewhere and I'm sure people are selling it too

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott on Assembly St. Probably 1 1/2 miles from the stadium. % minute cab ride.

Was 95 degrees but I saw quite a few walking.

You should go. Vista area is not that far away and is safe. Leave 5 points area alone.

For god's sake don't go to the capital and get on the steps... they get all bent out of shape over that.

Seriously though, good trip. You should do it. Fans were great before, during, and after the game.

Lol....give me a break. Our gameday experience is no better or worse than what our fans experience in Athens.

There aren't really any hotels within walking distance. Also, if you haven't reserved a hotel by now, you're going to end up staying a good distance away probably. The closer ones will probably be booked.

Check out the hotels in the Irmo/Harbison Blvd area. It's about a 20 minute drive, but the hotel will be close to a mall and restaurants (mostly chains).

Not really. Try to stay downtown/vista area where there are a lot of bars and restaurants. You'll have to pay for parking or take the shuttle from campus. I would do the Hilton or Hampton but probably booked by now. That's what you should have done.

Everything good on/near campus is probably booked. There's the Sheraton on Main and I think another big hotel on Main. There's a Marriott on campus and a boutique hotel operated by the University. It's odd how few really good hotels there are in the Vista (there is a Hilton, there should be more, the Vista is nice), but the Vista is booming so that'll change by the time the Dawgs come back in 2016.

I would suggest you look at Irmo/Harbison area and the Lexington area. Both are nice suburbs about 20mins from Downtown. Leave your hotel early (Gameday traffic in Columbia is no joke), get breakfast in the Vista and walk to campus to catch the Gameday shuttles down to WBS. Shuttles start running 5 or 6 hours before the game. Plenty of time to tailgate.

Your fellow fans were greatly exaggerating. You may get some (mostly) friendly trash talk, but you won't have a piss bomb thrown at you.

SC fans are no worse to visiting fans than UGA fans are.

The homeless guys yelling in our faces and following us to our cars was pretty bad. I'd glad I was in a large group.

I'm sure if you barked at them they'd leave you alone.
