Is it classless to pass the ball when the game is not in question?

I noticed that some coaches were calling pass plays at the end of the fourth quarter even though the game was not in question just to pad their Qbs stats. Classless move or no?

only acceptable if it's the backup q.b.

Not classless. It's the defenses job to stop it. It breeds complacency to run clock while up big in the 4th quarter.

Was it a 40 yard pass or a 1 yard pass?

If the backups are in, handing off is a disservice to your team and those players. Give them practice touches and the opportunity to play for their family on TV

imo, no. but I guess if you're playing a cupcake and the game is way out of reach then it's in bad form (therefore classless).

but if you are playing a conference foe that is having a bad year or bad game I would call it dumb. they will never ever forget it and it will come back to haunt you.

Backups should be getting playing time. It has nothing to do with class. If the backups aren't getting quality playing time, that's just bad coaching.

I'm ok with it. If you don't like it, get a better defense.

What if those pass plays are 4 yards or less to milk the clock?

It is no different than a power run team that keeps running. Would you suggest they stop running and just pass in the same situation?

Need a lot more context than that:
1) Who was in the game? Starter or backup?
1a) If the starter, is he a true freshman or 5th year senior? If the former, then ok. If not:
1ai) Was the pass over 25 yards in the air?
1b) If he was the backup it's cool.
2) What was the score?
2a) Are we up by <15 points? All fair game.
2b) are we up by >40 points? Probably classles
3) Was the amount of time left physically impossible for the other team to come back? Are we talking 14:30 remaining in the 4th Q or 0:15?

Running eats up more clock and ends the game faster.

If it's a 1st year starter or backup QB, I'm fine with the opponent passing.

I'm not sure if you're griping about A&M or Georgia. If A&M you didn't watch the game. A&M's last drive took over 10 minutes off the clock. The HUNH offense waited until the play clock got down to 1 or 2 seconds before snapping the ball. Clearly Sumlin was just trying to run out the clock w/o giving the ball back to USC. If you have a problem with that I don't know what to tell you.

I just think it is more of a slap in the face to just stop trying if you're the team that is up. That's just me though. If I am getting blown out and still playing hard, I don't want your charity.
