In a world/life where it's natural to complain when things are bad, and take things for granted when they're good... it sure is nice to see another guy come in like Carlson and do some impressive stuff in his first start. If he can continue to perform like that, then we have a very, very solid kicking game ahead of us for the next 4 years. He killed it punting and KO's, and had that one deflection off the upright which kept it from being a surreal debut.

When was the last time where horrible kicking/punting handicapped us for any extended amount of time? Not just a high profile game where shite fell apart.

John Vaughn vs. LSU, 2005?

Damon Duval vs. UF, 2002?

He said not a high profile game where shite fell apart. But I would consider John Vaughn...that fricker missing 5 FGs against LSU...Ill forever be rustled.

Yeah, I meant more just as a nagging problem.

Guess I just wanted to say I hope he performs as well as he looked Saturday... if so, we'd be pretty fortunate folks with 3 straight great kickers. Not to mention the punting side either

I agree. I think he will perform as well as he did Saturday. Dude has a leg.

Every missed field goal and shanked punt is an example of bad kicking/punting. So every year

Crappy subject line, but good question.

Answer? Honestly, I honestly don't remember AU ever having a bad kicking game, and my memory goes back to the Shug era. We've had some phenomenal PKs over the years - Jett, Portella, Del Greco, Etheridge, Lyle, Holmes, Duval, Vaughn, Yost, Byrum, Parkey - all those guys were solid, generally accurate multi-year guys. I don't recall of a time in AU history where I was watching a close game thinking, "damn, I hope it doesn't come down to our kicking game, cause if it does we're screwed". I don't think very many long-time fans of other SEC programs can say that.

Our punting has been almost as good over the four decades I've been paying close attention. We have just been very fortunate to find quality legs every season.
