I know absolutely nothing about NWA and Expedia keeps directing me to Bentonville hotels 15-20 miles out.

Are there no hotels in Fayetteville?

There are but they might be booked already. I know I've got some friends that just tried to find a hotel last week for our game against Northern Illinois in three weeks and they're having to stay in Bentonville.

Stay in Bentonville/Rogers if you can. It's nicer anyway. Like Embassy Suites or Aloft if you can get a room there.

It really isn't as far away as you would think.

Aloft

That's what I was leaning towards. I like their hotels.

So the drive and parking on gameday won't be an issue?

That you'll just have to experience for yourself. There's nothing we can say to prepare you flatlanders. You should make time to walk the hill up from Pomfret to rest of campus just for the life experience.

Well parking will most likely be an issue because I normally drop my family off at the stadium and usually end up parking close to downtown and walking to the stadium. There's probably something closer and better with paid parking but I just never worried about it much.

With I540 it is an easy drive from Aloft to the stadium. There's naturally going to be game day congestion when you get into the stadium area depending on how early you arrive prior to kickoff of course. Aloft is a good pick--I don't like it quite as well as Embassy but it is in the same general area and is a nice place to stay. I actually like the bar area downstairs better than what is at Embassy.

Google map the UA Police Department and park somewhere on the streets behind it. You won't be able to get to that area from Stadium Drive however so you usually have to come in on back roads. You can always find parking up there in someone's yard or parking lot if you're coming early enough to tailgate. You'll have to pay $10-20 but it's a relatively close walk to the stadium.

You have to book hotels way early to get one in Fay. My parents are staying at Aloft for the northern Illinois game. It's pretty nice.

I don't know much about Trip Advisor, but air conditioning issues are a deal breaker for me

I think you'll be happy with it.

I don't want to come across as dissing staying in Fayetteville. I love the place and there are hotels there that are fine to stay in such as the Chancellor downtown off Dickson which is at a good location and I've stayed there several times over the years and there are others such as the Holiday Inn Express off of Wedington and a Best Western off of Martin Luther King which was cheap and a good place to stay. Just never tried booking or staying at those places on a game day and if I'm staying there on something not business related I'm normally staying at a friend's house anyway. There's certainly many hotels in the whole NWA area to choose from and so many more than there used to be.

There should be plenty of rooms by that point in the season.

Are you coming up next year? If I recall correctly you brought your son up 5 years ago or so?

To the OP, staying in Bentonville is a good option and you can find great dining there but you miss out on the college atmosphere (which may be good or bad depending on your preferences).

Every Aloft I have stayed in has paper thin bathroom walls. You can hear every poop grunt loud and clear.

Parking: if you plan on getting there pretty early, you can probably find a spot behind Tri Delt house area. They move their cars and sell spots for $20 for home games. It's easy to leave and easy to get to and saves you from walking up a long hill. This area also puts you in a good spot on campus to go wherever you would like to go.

If considering parking there, I'd get there 3 hours before game time if early game. If night game, mid get there 5-6 hours before kickoff.

Last time we went was 2011, but I will probably try to go next year. As to bringing my son, don't know, he'll be 20 then and I am not as cool to hang out with as his friends at AU.
