It was a good first start IMO. Saban said the QB competition isn't over, but I would be perfectly fine with Sims winning out.
I counted two times where he threw it at a wide open receivers' feet, but that can be corrected. His other big mistake IMO was not throwing at Cooper at 6:02. If he let's Cooper make a play then, and if Jones doesn't drop the long pass, it would have been a great first start. I recognize that those are what-ifs and that what matters is that his start wasn't great, but I still think it was good and that he can be coached up and that we can have a hell of a year with him under center.

only a bama fan would not be thrilled with that performance from their new starting qb

what is that? why is everyone downing Bama fans because some aren't happy with his performance.....It's not like he lit the world on fire....
I thought he did fine though!

McCarron's first start at home vs. Kent St.
14-23
226
1 TD 2 INT
Blakesiah did alright.

At the 4:11 mark. That's what I want to see more of from Sims. Great touch, beautiful throw.

Can't throw it any better than that.

Who was on the sideline to replace him?

Am I the only one who quit watching Blake and started watching big Cam.
Some bad some good but it looks like he got better through the whole game. Want to see a bit more effort finishing plays.

Yeah, I liked a lot of what Cam did overall. He's already a good run blocker and decent in pass pro, though WVU doesn't have any particularly good rushers. He's only gonna get better with experience.
Imagine this monster as a Junior with anywhere from 26-30 starts under his belt.

I don't get your question. Phillip Sims.

I am gushing over Blakes confidence in the pocket and how he can move around to extend plays. His passes for the most part were much improved from what we have seen in the past. You know Kiffin has some designed run plays for Sims in the arsenal when we need them, boy is fast. I am more excited about Blake than I thought I'd be after game 1. His ability to throw well down field is there, just needs more consistency.

Philip Simms, who was the #1 rated passer for that year's recruiting class.

Yeah, I wanna see how defenses will play Blake.
I don't think he should have more than a few games over 10 carries. I mean if he's gashing em let him run, but we don't wanna be in rhythm in a close game and lose him to injury.
If they spy him, that's one less guy covering our studs. If they don't, they'll be coming up everything he even begins to run. Then that will let someone get wide open.
Could be fun.

I think Blake is very comfortable running the zone read, based on what we saw in years past. It's gotta be in the playbook along with several PA fakes.
I agree that we don't want to run him too much. But he actually seemed to settle down a little bit after he took a hit against WVU. I think 5-10 carries sounds about right. It's not like we don't have any other options to run the ball.
I'm probably most pleased with Blake's ability to avoid the pass the rush. Everyone seems to be pleased with the OL (outside of the penalties) but they could have gave up some drive killing sacks if a different QB was in the game.

McCarron was a RS frosh. Sims is a RS senior so it's not quite apples to apples, but I thought Sims did fine. I wish they would have added some read option in there for him. Perhaps they're saving that for UF.

Well, actually McCarron was a RS Sophomore.

That's right. Point still stands.
