Was helping my buddy a few weeks ago, and we loaded up a custom built cabinet that came in 2 parts. One was loaded on the back of his truck, the other on his dad's (who made them). It was raining slightly.

Well they didnt strap them down or anything for some reason (I thought they were, so I just sat in the truck, and they were sticking over tailgate), and they both ended up falling off the trucks, not even a mile down the road. Luckily no one got hurt.

Another one, I was leaving Lowes with a bundle of fence pickets on the back of the truck. As I was pulling out at the red light, it all fell off the back, but none broke. Thing is, I drove w/ some the day earlier and they didnt move on the back of the truck at all.

So what are yall's stories? Or have you seen someone driving and lose their load?

So this isn't really a horror story because it ended up not doing any damage, but it still scared the shite out of me.

A week ago I was driving south out of Atlanta on my way back home from Tennessee and this black cylindrical thing (I still don't know what it was) detached from a semi while I was changing lanes and I could just tell it was gonna hit me as it bounced along. It spun up and hit me smack dab in the windshield, and that shite was loud. I honestly can't believe it didn't crack it.

Several years ago, though, my brother and I were driving this futon back to our parents' house. We were in separate cars. My brother was driving our dad's Avalanche and I was in my car. Well, we were dumb and didn't secure the futon in the back of the Avalanche. We thought it would be fine, but we stupidly took the interstate instead of the slower back roads. I was driving behind my brother and that frame just came right out of the damn thing. I swerved to miss it and I still thank God there wasn't a car right next to me because I didn't even look. The frame shattered all over the road and it's a wonder we didn't cause some kind of accident.

But we didn't. It didn't hit anyone, we pulled off to the side of the interstate to make sure everyone was alright, and that was that. It was stupid of us and we were glad it wasn't worse, because it could have been.

The weirdest thing happened when I was helping my friend move some furniture out if his grandmothers place. We get to the last thing and it is this old wardrobe chest stuck up in the attic. After wrestling it into the back of my friends truck we start to drive the 10 or so miles back to the interstate. His truck starts stuttering and shite, making noise ( I'm not a mechanic so I don't know what was wrong) but he was all pissed cause it was new and all.

Anyway as he is looking down and messing with it, I guess we hit the ditch or something because I bounce up and nail my head and the wardrobe flies out of the bed of the truck. My friend slams on the brakes and backed up. The thing fell a little ways down the ditch and one of the doors popped open in the fall. I grab a rope and follow my buddy down.

When he leans down to close the door something popped up and grabbed him by the throat. It had the general shape of a human with stringy hair although it's "skin" was gnarled. It certainly didn't appear to be human, at least not anymore. It then turned and leered at me with these lidless eyes and a cold stare. You could really feel the hatred.

I saw it squeeze it's hand and my friends eyes bulged as he gasped for one last breath of air before it ripped my friend into the wardrobe and disappeared. I'd like to say that I went over and tried to help my friend, but I turned and ran to the truck and got out of there. I still don't know what happened, but I see those eyes every time I close mine.

Had a friend a year or two ago driving down I-20 toward Columbia with her BF and sister when a tractor trailer ahead of them had a blow out. The tire remained intact enough to fly backward and completely shatter their windshield. Nobody was hurt by some miracle but her car was pretty fricked from it.

Last fall I had rented a big air compressor for a job. It was one of those that needed its own small trailer to haul around. So I was driving down the highway in the left lane when the trailer started to wiggle. I was like "uh-oh". Next thing I know the right side of the trailer slams onto the asphalt, and as I slow down the tire passes me.

I pull into the median and watch the tire. The road curves a little up ahead, so the tire crosses the median, hops the ditch in the middle, stays on course and goes into oncoming traffic. Cars are swerving, slamming on their brakes. I'm just praying no one is going to die from the inevitable accident. But no one hits it or anyone else, and the tire keeps rolling out of sight.

So I call the rental company and try to explain to them what happened, and for them to bring me another compressor. The guy on the phone tells me that tires on the trailer are the responsibility of the customer. I tell him that the tire looked completely fine as it passed me going 55mph down the road. It was the wheel that sheered off the axle that was the problem. He asked me to send a pic. I did. His manager called me back and apologized and said they'd bring me another one.

Now, as I get off the phone and get out of the truck, I see smoke everywhere. I look back and the entire median behind me is engulfed in flames. Sparks from the axle had caught it on fire. Fire department had to come and put it out. Crazy day that day.

I was pulling 2 of these we bought back from Macon, MS to the delta for our catfish farm once...also had 150 PTO shafts in the bed of the truck. It was so weighted down that when I crossed a bridge near Winona the shocks bottomed out and the hitch pin came out and I looked over and both of these had come loose and were passing me on the highway, then went into the median and into oncoming traffic. I was lucky it didn't cause a wreck

A friend of mine was in Peru with his family driving a rental car. A piece of metal broke of a semi in front of them and smashed through the windshield. It hit his mom in the face and shattered her cheek bone. The doctor said if it had hit a little higher it would have killed her. Then as a nice topper, when they went back to the rental car, someone has stolen all their luggage out of it.

While on a surge deployment, one the guys had just checked onboard as we were in port. His wife and kids did all the moving because they wanted to finish school and hang out with their friends for the summer. Late August the movers came and picked up all their stuff. All they had to do was to drive up from Florida to Va. On their way up a tragic accident happened. A vehicle ahead of the family not knowing how to tie down a mattress on top of their vehicle. The mattress broke loose killing the family.

A few months back, I was driving north through jonesboro Georgia and this truck had a head on collision with another car and it looked like the engine block was knocked out of the truck.

Trickydick......you trying to be tricky w/ that story? Or did it really happen?

I hope your making it up b/c that sucks about the family. That's the biggest thing I'm worried about. frick my stuff if it falls off, I just don't want anyone to get hurt.

After these things fell off the truck to me and my friends, I've been real careful when I put stuff on the truck and trailer to make sure its tied down securely. I've also seen a lot of bed mattresses on the side of the interstate, and it's always the top mattress and not the frame
