Seems to me when we go into these alignments we are most effective versus spread offenses, as long as we have good play from the safeties. We seemed to go to these alignments yesterday in the second half. What would be the drawbacks to these sets when a team has little inclination, or maybe ability, to rush downhill?
I have no doubt we see a healthy dose of this against A&M .

4-2 for Nickel, 4-1 for Dime.

And I'm a big Jarrick fan, but put more corners on the field. When Eddie comes back, if TB can get on the field at Corner, but Cyrus at Star. Playing more Safeties than Corners hurts us against those teams.

I guess im just a little perplexed that it took over a half to make this adjustment and go to the fourth down lineman. They seemed to move the ball easily until we moved into that set

I'm perplexed that we're still giving receivers such a cushion. I know why we're not playing man with Jones/Sylve. They're not made for it. But at least pretend like you're gonna cover em.

Chavis seems to be a master at defending the spread and always uses 4 down lineman as far as I can tell. As long as you have safeties who can move into run coverage, I think this has to be the way to defend it.

ETA I suck at spelling

The two interior guys clog, and the DEs go balls out to kill the QB. If the QB tries to run around the clog. With a spy LB or safety (better) he learns not to run to fast, and that helps the DEs.

Seems like we just need to man corners in the nickel and dime package. We know Jackson is money and we are pretty sure that TB and MH are as well, but.....

I think the corners need to not be pussies and show the receiver who their daddy is.

Oh I totally agree. The main reason spread teams are so successful against us is because we are physical enough with the receivers. We blitz and give give receivers 5 yards of space. In the SB we slowed down Oklahoma in the 2nd half by pressing the receivers, but came out and did exactly what got us killed in the first half of the SB against WV. I just don't understand

Anyone else thinking it might be time for Kirby Smart to take a head coaching job after this year and Bama bring in a new DC? I pretty sure the DC at Georgia would come back as the new DC.

I've thought this as well. Why play a safety in the slot when teams have more receivers than we have corners on the field. Only makes sense to put a hat on a hat or the player with no press on him is just going to nickel and dime us until he breaks free eventually.

Do we play bump and run? With these quick passes, maybe mix that in to mess with the timing a bit.

Still think Sylve could have had 2 picks had he been able to locate the ball in the air.

I don't know, but I'm not gonna blame him for giving up what will be a bit less than WVU's season average and holding them to one TD on offense.

If we did lose Smart, I had a dream one time that we hired Muschamp after UF fired him and our two OCs were former head coaches who have led two top programs to 10 win seasons.
