We'll drop a notch in the defensive categories after UTee's game tonight.
But considering the opponent, holding Arky to 328 yards and 3 TDs - after they essentially had been preparing for us for 9 months - was pretty solid. I hope to see us tighten up a little more in the red zone, but other than that I'm pretty pleased.

Do you have last year's handy for comparison. Too early I know, but it might make a good thing to come back to from time to time.

I don't but I can add that Auburn didn't reach 500+ yards of offense until the 6th game against Western Carolina last year and we didn't hold any Power 5 team to under 400 yards either.
Both were accomplished against Arky.

If you're talking about total defense alone (in the SEC only):
2014 - 4 YTD
2013 - 12 (yep)
2012 - 13 out of 14
2011 - 11 out of 12
2010 - 9
2009 - 11
2008 - 7

What I find interesting about the stats, FSU went into the BCS NCG as this supposed juggernaut on offense scoring 47 pts a game in conference play.
Auburn was 12th in the SEC on defense and they were held on offense to 28 pts. Unranked Ok St was 53rd last year on defense, made FSU not look off last night.
Basically, FSU scores at will against the ACC and struggles elsewhere (against relatively bad defenses) but the ACC wants you to know they're the best conference in CFB.

Direct comparisons between last years Arky game defensive stats and this years:
Points surrendered:
2013 - 17
2014 - 21
Total yards surrendered:
2013 - 346
2014 - 328
Rush yards surrendered:
2013 - 222
2014 - 153
Passing yards surrendered:
2013 - 124
2014 - 175
TDs scored by the defense:
2013 - 0
2014 - 1
IMO, the above indicates a *slight* improvement over the year before for the defense. We may have given up 4 more points, but the defense also SCORED a TD and held the bread-and-butter of the Arky offensive game, running the football, to a figure 31% less than they achieved last year.
Last years offensive stats compared to this years:
Offensive pts scored:
2013 - 35
2014 - 38
Total yards offense:
2013 - 366
2014 - 595
Total rush yards:
2013 - 233
2014 - 302
Total passing yards:
2013 - 133
2014 - 293
The totals above show a MASSIVE improvement by the offense against Arky from 2013 to 2014. The fact that the total points didn't jump anymore than they did is because Gus decided to use up clock after we were 3 scores up in the 2nd half as well as taking a knee inside the 10-yd line at the end of the game. We could have easily had 14 more points IMO.

It's a shame he came to auburn under Chizik.

Yea, they looked really good. That is what I want to see out of our guys. I know they will never be a top 10 D or anything, but they always look so hesitant to attack the ball, with a few exceptions of course.
It was nice seeing Stephen Roberts in there. He diagnosed a jet sweep to the outside and blew up the ball carrier.
Most of these boys just have too much Chizz in 'em.

Great comparison. The other thing to note between last year and this year's game is this year that was our very first game and last year we played them in Nov. after everything was clicking. We certainly didn't get off to a slow start this year, but we're going to get better every week. And i think Arkansas is definitely better this year than they were last year.
