There was plenty to be concerned about but the kicking game was a bright spot.

Yeah he was fantastic all day long. But he is gonna have to make a whole bunch more FGs before I get comfortable seeing any attempts.

Just think, he was on the bench while Cade was missing 30-40 yarders.

With his first FG, Griffith made more clutch 40+ yard FGs than Foster made in his whole career.

This is why I thought the field goal against auburn last year was a good call. He made a 53 yarder Saturday. Just 4 yards shy of the length attempted in the Iron Bowl. Having seen him make those kicks in high school I was furious that he was not put in earlier in the year over Foster.

The punter was impressive as well, especially considering he is a true freshman

He's got a huge leg, with LC as the gunner they r gonna be lethal.

I loved how the returner didn't expect that. And the hang time felt crazy. That returner was backing up forever it felt like.

That's gonna help a young D out.

Or, it could hurt them in games here they can't stop an offense. Long drives could demoralize em.

So, yeah.

His longest FG Saturday was 45 yards.

I was actually surprised we didn't try the 53 yarder instead of going for it on 4th and 6.

Me too, though I was happy we went for it. We have so much talent, I'd like for us to go for it on 4th more than we have before. 4th and 1 in 2012 especially pissed me off. I get why we would punt, but with that OL and Lacy, it's almost automatic.

"Alabama coach Nick Saban said Saturday there were times last year when he thought about moving Griffith into the starting role."

He has a knack for playing lesser players. Has some advantages, but it has hurt us before. But he's also made a lot of decisions that helped, so no one get confused and claim I'm saying Saban has done a bad job or something.

And in all honesty, that 57 yarder or whatever against Auburn was pretttttty damn close to going in. It was a crazy play but hey it happens.

Hopefully all the kicks he missed last season were just him being nervous trying to take the job from Cade. He looks much better now that he knows the job is his.

It looked like every kick he made Saturday would have been good from 57 yards. Awesome job.

No kidding, play the guys that will give us the best chance of winning. I get seniority but if a guy is clearly better give him a chance.

Saban made it sound like we wouldn't play LC on special teams all year. Not sure if he just meant certain formations (punts vs KO), or what. Evans seems to play pretty well on kickoffs though
