Two of Eddie Jackson, Cyrus Jones, and Tony Brown.

Jones probably gets a 6/10 yesterday. He came up and made tackles on a lot of the throws he gave up, but he still gave them up and was out of position. But I think he'll improve, because he flashed some great play. Like the two passes to the endzone. He covered those extremely well. I think he'll be fine, just had some first game jitters. But people will still take the 6/10 as hating and not legitimate criticism.

I wouldn't mind moving Cyrus to Star. Saban said a few weeks ago that he knew the position. Put him at Star, play EJ/TB outside. We're in Nickel most of the time anyway, and playing more Safeties than Corners isn't gonna work against the good teams.

Hopefully anyone but Cyrus Jones and Bradley Sylve.

I usually do not like to be critical of individual players but Bradley Sylve was absolutely terrible yesterday. I was so surprised to see him play the entire game. I will be shocked if Saban doesnt start Tony Brown, Marlon Humphrey or Eddie Jackson against Florida.

Can Cooper play both ways?

He played the whole game because Saban and Smart...after watching all those guys in practice every day...were convinced that they weren't as capable. For what ever reasons...not as talented, not as big, not as fast, not having a strong enough grasp of the defensive playbook, banged up a little. Whatever. And you may be end up being correct...we may see one of those guys start...but there have apparently been enough reasons seen in practice that resulted in who we saw on the field last night.

Sylve was terrible. If he doesn't improve I'm sure he'll get replaced. We'll see, maybe it was just a bad game.

That's the problem.

Practice isn't a great indicator of how you do in games.

Don't forget, Saban has been stubbornly loyal to older players that were lesser talents. Maze/Hanks were good players for Bama, but Norwood/White are/were better plays. While they shouldn't have been the starters, they should have played more.

The thing is, Saban/whoever didn't even give anyone else a chance. Sylve played the ENTIRE game, getting burnt play after play.

Maybe true...but if you don't perform in practice, very few coaches will put you out there in a pressure situation in a big game. Fortunately, next week should provide lots of playing time for everyone mentioned.

Yeah, but in his mind, he's given them the chance in practice, and they haven't performed.

And yeah, if I had been the WVA OC, I'd have thrown at Sylve about 40 times. Don't know why he didn't.

Worst case scenario, his replacement gets burnt. In other words, the same thing Sylve would have done.

Right now I would guess CJ and EJ. It's possible that TB takes a spot by then but since he never got in yesterday it doesn't seem likely.

Sylve had a bad game....his positioning was fine but he just couldn't locate the ball. Reminds me of Menzie when first started. Sylve if he located the ball could have had 2 picks yesterday.

It'll be interesting to see who plays next week. CNS has said that we went with Fulton against A&M because the younger CBs just weren't ready to face a high powered pass heavy up tempo passing attack that early in the season. Could've been a similar approach with WVA this year. Just because a player has great talent doesn't mean he's ready to be thrown out there.

I also suspect CNS thought Sylve would play better. Chase Goodbread retweeted some blog report last week claiming that Sylve had been our best CB in fall camp and Cyrus is the most likely one to be replaced by EJ when he returns.

I disagree.

First of all, Saban plays the person who gives us the best chance to win. Sometimes consistency from a more experienced guy makes him "better" than a young talent.

Also, he's shown time and time again that young talent will play immediately if they can get the play book down and perform reliably: starting with Mark Ingram over Upchurch, Amari Cooper, Cyrus Kouandjio, Cam Robinson. These are just the few I can list off the top of my head.

Thank you! Amazing how many guys on here can't grasp this concept.

Was Sylve awful yesterday? Absolutely. But apparently he's our least awful option at the moment.
