First of all, I think both are very solid backs. We are fortunate to have both. That said, in short yardage situations I do not trust Yeldon. He might not be the better overall back, but Henry is much better at running up the middle and at times, is better at getting through that second level. The next time it is 3rd and 1, I'd rather see Henry, Fowler, Drake, or Sims run it.

Short yardage? Yeah, Henry.

I think Henry is a bit better runner, but Yeldon is better overall right now.

I think both are gonna rush for well over 1000.

I think Henry is all around better that Yeldon (at least at running the ball). I still think Drake needs more touches.

Seems like they still prefer TJ in short yardage which surprised me a little considering that's where he had a couple key fumbles last year

It's because Yeldon is the best on our team at falling forward. Seriously look at his runs and you'll notice he falls forward way more often than he gets a loss.

Henry doesn't have the fall forward ability yet but he's getting there. Yeldon still would be my pick in short term situations while I like Henry at our 40 to their 20. Middle of the field, all that space for Henry, Oh man.

It's like Trich and Lacy. We would always start out with Trich, then middle of the field switch it up to Lacy, and then ride whichever into the endzone.

That might be true, but when we are facing a crowded front on 3rd and 1, TJ's running style just isn't favorable to plowing through the middle to get that yard. We've seen it countless times where TJ just gets stood up. I think Henry's size is a big advantage there and he can get 3 yards just falling forward. Henry is much better at playing the role of a "bruiser" than Yeldon is.

This. There were a few runs by Henry where it didn't look like much and each time, we'd look up and see that he had gained 3 to 5 yards on those plays...

3rd and 2 in the red zone and TJ can't get enough, yet again. I've seen that movie enough now.

Agreed. Its not a slam at Yeldon because he's obviously a capable back that can make plays. However, I think its clear that he shouldn't be the go-to guy in those situations.

Which is crazy because that crucial third down in the 2012 SEC championship game was one of the most impressive, gutsy third down runs I've ever seen.

Also, I feel like Yeldon stays inside sometimes when he should bounce it out, because he is so quick around the edge. He can outrun anyone on the outside.

Ah. But then you remember him trying to bounce the 4th and 1 outside against Auburn and getting stoned. I'd just rather see Henry or Fowler or Feed Drake at this point.(in short yardage) And I love TJ.

Well he had an unimpeded Carl Lawson in his face on that place, didn't really have a chance to do anything.

But, I'm not trying to say that I don't agree with this thread. It's hard to say that we shouldn't give it to that monster on a short yardage situation.

When his legs get moving it is a sight to see. He's like a machine of destruction.

Anybody noticed Derrick's vision? Dude reminds me of Mark Ingram the way he slides between line gaps. Except it's more of happy feet stop in between the lines and then big acceleration out of the hole than what Ingy did. Ingram just did a one stop jump cut.

I can't remember a single player that brings what Henry brings to the table....he is absolutely unreal.

Did anyone else think Yeldon did a bit less dancing in the backfield this past game?

Yeah, he has great vision and when he sees that hole, he doesn't waste anytime. I think that is a bige difference between him and Yeldon but the biggest difference IMO is that when Henry gets moving, he's just tougher to bring down. That's what made Lacy, Ingram, and Richardson such great backs and that is why I'd rather have Henry in on short yardage.

Where does Drake fit in all this? I'd still like to see him get 5-10 touches a game.

I think when we get into a hurry up mode, Drake could be very effective.

I think the bottom line is that even though there is only one ball to go around for Yeldon, Henry, Drake, Cooper, etc...we have still have to find ways to utilize the most out of their skills. IMO, I think our offense has a history of making the talent conform to what we want to run instead of conforming the offense to the talent we have on hand.
