In case anyone wanted to discuss.

Box Score

Some notables:

- Patrick Towles finished with 20/29, 377 yards, and 1 TD (rushing).

- Braylon Heard's debut was also a successful one. 2 carries for 116 yards, both resulting in TDs. Longest 73 yards. Mikel Horton was 2nd in rushing with 7 carries for 45 yards and 2 TDs. Jojo Kemp has 8 carries for 31 yards and a TD. All in all not a bad day for The Stable.

- The defense (Tiller and Stamps) had 2 INTs. For the sake of comparison, they only had 3 INTs all last season. Henderson had a beautiful fumble recovery for a TD as well. The team had 3 sacks for a loss of 14 yards (Regie Meant 2, Mike Douglas 1). AJ Stamps led the group with 4 solo tackles.

- Landon Foster punted just once today. Once. For 46 yards.

- UK converted 8 of 14 on 3rd down today. For sake of comparison, they only converted 4 of 11 against Miami(OH) last season.

- Most TDs scored by the Wildcats in 5 years. 4th highest point total in Commonwealth ever. Another random stat, Neal Brown has participated either as a player or coach in the Top 4 highest scoring games in Commonwealth.

All in all it was a good day. Obviously it's UT Martin so expectations need to be tempered as such but I thought the offense looked as good as it possible could in it's first game with a new QB and a lot of young playmakers.

Braylon Heard is the man. I wish he hadn't of tweaked his ankle so he could've went 3/3 on touches for TD.

I will say the two spots I saw some issues today were on the ends with the defense. They did a poor job of sealing the run and we'll get torched against someone like Gurley and Georgia if it doesn't get shored up. The secondary really hurts when Tiller isn't in and this is where Darius West's injury will hurt IMO. Also thought special teams was sloppy at best with a missed 41 yarder and some blocks in the back on coverage. I have a feeling that will probably be a weakness for us this season.

One of the most impressive stats is that 24 players made their debut for UK yesterday.

I can't wait to see what this football team looks like in 2 years when Stoops has a full stable of his players.

The future is looking bright.

These national ranks for the Cats after yesterday are notable:

#1 in yards/play (10.5)

#1 in turnover margin

#9 in total offense

Hard to take much out of that game considering the opponent, but what definitely stood out to me was "explosive plays" and it looks like Kentucky is back to having SEC level talent at the skill positions.

While we are talking of who did play it would be nice to see a final list of who did not. Redshirt list for next season will be interesting by seasons end.

Well we know right off the bat that Drew Barker didn't. Thaddeus Snodgrass didn't either. Darius West is out for the season and will likely receive the medical redshirt. We know Elam got snaps, most of the freshman on offense (i.e. Bone, Boom, etc).

The starter's list is all jacked up, but this was put out there by the Kentucky Football group on FB. It should be a pretty comprehensive list of who played/who didn't.

Here's the Week 2 depth chart as well.

So I'm guessing from the week 2 DC they are expecting Heard to be fine injury wise?

We have a young, young team.

Yeah. My understanding was that he was in a boot for precautionary reasons. Stoops said he expects both Heard and Blue to be available this weekend.

Yes, awesome. I'm not asking for much, but would like us to be competitive in SEC games this year. Just be in the game in the 4th quarter. Future looks really bright.

Read today that Heard was still having some tenderness in the ankle so he'll likely be doubtful. Same with Blue. Makes sense to get them some rest this week before we head to Florida where we'll absolutely need both.
